Little Creatures Specifications

Having spent the early '80s in a giddy expansion of the sound and scale of their studio recordings and concerts, Talking Heads come full circle with this 1985 album, retracting to the core quartet and restoring a focus on David Byrne's knotty songs. Arriving in the wake of the fevered rhythms of Speaking in Tongues and Stop Making Sense, Little Creatures's new material sounds freshly lyrical, remarkably concise, even subdued, but there's the usual whimsy--the levitating heroine of the jangling, punchy opener, "And She Was," the cracked child-rearing advice of "Stay Up Late," and the galloping, anthemic reminder that we're on the "Road to Nowhere." --Sam Sutherland

Customer Reviews

I had gone back and discovered the brilliance, Talking Heads is now forty years old and adults found that I may have been wrong on "Little Creatures", which actually was the first of their albums I bought as a new version In 1985 I had ignored the "Stop Making Sense", when it was in the standings and only the group for the year ahead. Funny story is that "Little Creatures" was released in the summer I was in a school exchange trip in Germany and the minute someonesaid it was the shops I went out and found a copy on cassette that I made.

At that time it was different, and were one of the band, followed by an artistic group of musicians in urban Angst of my master. At the time I thought it was a pretty cool, if unimaginative record & literally heard non-stop for a couple of weeks traveling throughout Europe. When I returned to the United States and the album for my friends I was a bit 'appalled to hear their views, to play, that theThe book was sold out, and below the waist, in the crush of the record soon fell into disgrace, while also quickly sold, more mainstream audience. But after hearing the great songs (the annoying "And She Was" and "Road To Nowhere ") proposed in college, bars that have sold to God, even if the music was still pretty decent.

Then came "True Stories" and it became clear that David Byrne Pop was gone, and the rest of the band had gone with him. Boo hoo. "Wild Wild Life"As the only success was the last straw, so to speak, and I more or less abandoned Talking Heads as a functional unit, to "Naked", with the time it was too late. Until 1989, the group had a tour of life, divided by all intents and purposes, and I never even see them live. The disappointment is still enormous.

One of the unfortunate consequences of this disappointment was that I was back on pop-Talking Heads-era - so far I have never owned a copy of "TrueAlbum Stories', though I liked the movie - and the victim was probably the largest "Little Creatures", which literally has not had too many, many years. Apart from the shocking 12-inch remix of "Lady Don 't Find Mind" (which later versions of British imports of the CD is to buy the recommended version) and the brilliant "Television Man", the audience has always been a of my favorite songs, Talking Heads, "Little Creatures" done my liver shrug. I put it aside and did my bestForgot to do it for more than 20 years, managing a good job.

This is due to hear, like a grown man, and because in hindsight be able to return to all Talking Heads career 'in 2008, now look after it and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2004), is quite clear that "Little Creatures" has played an important if misunderstood - at least from me - the role in the development of an angular post-punk rock band in the ArtsPowerhouse, the music transcends mere cultural considerations, such as gender or economic attractiveness vs. aesthetics underground.

My opinion about the album now, 20 years later, is that it's actually a pretty decent disc that just happened to have a couple of songs very annoying. In particular, the opening "And she was" like an annoying pop single I've ever heard, and "Creatures Of Love", an ode to the country more regularly purchased, and manage the search for love on the proceduresat the same time, which is easily my choice for most Awful Talking Heads song ever. I even managed to "Road to Nowhere", and was a popular favorite, although I must say that there is something special is happening in the song ... Maybe a strong awareness that the band was both metaphorical and literal Road To Nowhere, and it was probably time for them to end their union. Hear it kind of sends a shiver down my back as a text by David Byrne is a way of sayingThe story of how it all came from crumbling.

Other titles, however, remains open genius: "Television Man", "Lady Do not Mind," the creepy "Walk It Town," tamed disarming "Perfect World" and "Stay Up Late" and "Give Me Back My Name, "the wonder as David Byrne, returns for his private life, with a pop culture seems to be a superstar. Come on, remember that tamed the entire album, and also cuts annoying (and the setting lyrical Byrne was) For the love of his life, the designer Adelle Lutz costumes are actually quite audible over all the crap I have taken into account in record stores for ten years. "Little Creatures" is not the strongest hours Talking Heads', but weak, Talking Heads, is better than 99.9% of the punk / rock / pop music ever composed, so that you can do much worse. It is hard not to like a big hall and I can easily recommend to anyone who has an interest.

One problem that I have a lot of people seecommented in relation to the Talking Heads tried a CD of "first choice" recommendation for young listeners who love to discover what turns the confusion is everything with this band. Although it was a commercial success, I would not vote "Little Creatures", but a nod in the direction of one of their first minimalist masterpiece "More Songs About Buildings and Food", or making critical focus, "Speaking In Tongues" that really broke open the doors for them. "Little Creatures" is probably laterOnce you've got to be used as, David Byrne and are comfortable with the sound of the band. Until then, you will find a better feel for why it is disappointing that the fans when compared to what has happened, though now 20 years on the road again, he sounds good.
