Gravity

Gravity Overview

2010 release, the 11th studio album from Irish pop outfit Westlife. Working alongside producer John Shanks (Take That, Backestreet Boys, Bon Jovi) the band has evolved their contemporary pop sound whilst retaining their renowned, emotive ballad style. The album title came from a fans suggestion of a lyric from first single 'Safe' through Twitter and was subsequently adopted by the band.

Frank Zappa: Apostrophe / Over-Nite Sensation Overview

"This is where you go to find every aspect of Frank's music squeezed into two perfectly formed records."Dweezil Zappa. This new addition to Eagle Vision's acclaimed Classic Albums series focuses on Frank Zappa's early seventies albums "Overnite Sensation" (1973) and "Apostrophe(`)" (1974). Together they encapsulate Zappa's extraordinary musical diversity and were also the two most commercially successful albums that he released in his prolific career. As ever the program uses interviews, musical demonstrations, rare archive and home movie footage plus live performances to tell the story behind the conception and recording of these groundbreaking albums. TRACKLISTING: Features excerpts from: -Dinah-Moe Humm -I'm The Slime -Montana -St Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast -Dirty Love -Cosmic Debris -Stink-Foot & more.

Frank Zappa: Apostrophe / Over-Nite Sensation Specifications

History will show that Frank Zappa (1940-1993) was one of the greatest American composers of the 20th century in any musical form, and this superb episode of the Classic Albums series offers ample proof of Zappa's genius. As Zappa's reverent son and musical heir Dweezil Zappa rightly points out, Over-Nite Sensation (1973) and Apostrophe (') (1974) are the albums that epitomize Zappa's masterful jazz/rock fusion, virtually defining a unique musical genre that can only be called "Zappa." The recording of both albums is chronicled here not simply because they best represent the dazzling complexity of Zappa's music, but also because they were recorded simultaneously in a burst of creativity, proving beyond any doubt that Zappa was more than simply a mischievous provocateur. While the world may know Zappa from his mainstream novelty hit "Valley Girl" (with daughter Moon on vocals), any devoted Zappaphile will tell you that this is the real Zappa, in full musical bloom, working miracles in the studio with The Mothers of Invention and a stellar variety of topnotch musicians who cite their time with Zappa as the most rewarding period of their careers.

The Classic Albums series strives to be definitive, and this must-have DVD is fully authorized in the scope of its coverage. With complete cooperation and participation from the remaining Zappa family (sons Dweezil and Ahmet, daughter Moon, and widow Gail are all extensively interviewed) and additional interviews with Billy Bob Thornton, Alice Cooper, guitarist Steve Vai, veteran Rolling Stone critic David Fricke, and many of Zappa's closest associates and collaborators, this 97-minute documentary is packed with highlights and fascinating revelations, like the pristine precision of Zappa's hand-written compositions, Zappa's childhood fascination with the compositions of Edgard Varèse, and his diligent, prolific, and disciplined, drug-free approach to recording and touring. Zappa's studio process is amazingly revealed when Dweezil and Zappa "Vaultmeister" Joe Travers sit down at a mixing table to analyze the master tapes of classic Zappa tracks like the hilariously controversial "Dyna-Moe Humm." In addition to vintage archival clips of Zappa discussing his music and career, and home movies of Zappa's band on tour during the mid-1970s, this DVD also includes the complete video of Zappa performing "I'm the Slime" on Saturday Night Live in 1976, live footage of a 1973 performance of "Montana," and a new performance of "Camarillo Brillo" by Dweezil's tribute band, Zappa Plays Zappa (with Dweezil playing one of his father's favorite Gibson guitars). Bonus features also include a Travers-hosted trip into the massive Zappa archives, and further deconstruction of Zappa tracks "Dirty Love" and "Nanook Rubs It." If you're a casual Zappa fan, this DVD will turn you into a passionate convert. For those who've loved Zappa all along, it's a little bit of heaven here on Earth. --Jeff Shannon

Attack and Release

Attack and Release Overview

Limited Edition pressing of their 2008 album comes in double fold digipak packaging. On Attack and Release, Danger Mouse is more creative co- conspirator than traditional figure behind the boards. He doesn’t radically alter the duo ’s sound so much as coax out more of its inherent soulfulness, groove and bittersweet emotion. Two versions of 'Remember When' illustrate how the duo can swing easily from smoldering ballad to thrashing rocker. 'I’ m more pleased with the sound of this record than any one we’v e ever made,' says Carney, and Auerbach concurs: 'We never let it all go l ike we did for this one, anything was game. It was just fun to make, and that’s why I t hink it’s so successful.' V2.

Attack and Release Specifications

Of all the two-piece rock bands (Dresden Dolls, The White Stripes, The Kills, John & Jehn) out there making a royal racket, The Black Keys are by far the least affected by the last three decades of popular music, and evolution. Even more so than Jack & Meg. Which makes you check the album credits twice and then seek a second opinion--produced by celebrated uber-producer, superstar DJ and one half of Gnarls Barkley, the ubiquitous and really quite modern Danger Mouse?! No, your eyes do not deceive you, but thankfully neither do your ears. He may have brought a discipline and expensive sheen to Attack & Release, the riffing is buffed up real good, but this is essentially the same band that continues to live less of a life and more a Jimi Hendrix Experience. If there is a change it's that for the first time their foot is teased off the accelerator, with "Lies", "Remember When (Side A)" and "Oceans & Streams" loosening their shoulders and playing a more chilled brand of dusty sunset southern blues, adding in keys and new layers of texture (is that really a flute on "Same Old Thing"?!). There's still plenty of chance, on the massive Zeppelin-esque "Strange Times" and "Remember When (Side B)" for instance, to leave a boot mark though. More release than attack this time around, but the key still fits. --James Berry

10,000 Days

10,000 Days Overview

Sonically relentless and visually groundbreaking only begin to describe the Tool experience. Formed in Los Angeles, CA in 1990, Tool has cemented themselves in today's hard music community with uncompromising attitude and vision. With just one EP and three album releases over a 15-year span, Tool has created a loyal and even rabid fan base, selling over 10 million albums and half a million videos in the U.S. alone.

10,000 Days Specifications

With a majority of the songs on 10,000 Days clocking in well past the seven-minute mark, you wouldn't be entirely mistaken in thinking that the title of the album refers to how long it actually takes to make it through the whole thing. Two of the tracks--the sitar and tabla enhanced "10,000 Days (Wings Part 2)" and its suitably epic psych-rock sister "Rosetta Stoned"--even linger on for nearly a dozen leisurely minutes each. That's delightful news for the legion of Tool fans that have been waiting five years for the follow-up to 2001's Lateralus, which debuted at number one and sold 2.3 million copies in the United States. Singer Maynard James Keenan is back on mystical form after his hiatus with the politically slanted A Perfect Circle, sounding at once ethereal and eloquent as he calmly charges through the metal tempest of the opening track "Vicarious." The rest of the band, meanwhile, hits a series of high-flying moments with tracks such as "Jambi" and "The Pot." When Tool sounds as good as it does on these songs it's hard to get enough. Which makes it all the more baffling that a surprisingly large chunk of the disc is given over to mood-enhancing soundscapes like "Lost Keys" and "Vigniti Tres." The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac (2CD)

The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac (2CD) Overview

The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac packs 2 CDs with 36 hit singles and popular album tracks spanning 1975-1997. Features the #1 'Dreams' plus the classic hits 'Over My Head,' 'Rhiannon,' 'Go Your Own Way,' 'Don't Stop,' 'You Make Loving Fun,' 'Tusk,' 'Sara,' 'Hold Me,' 'Little Lies,' the live 'Go Insane' from The Dance and 'Silver Springs' currently out of print, and much more. The CD is also enhanced with exclusive footage of Fleetwood Mac making their new 2003 album - their first studio album in 15 years! Plus the vaults - rare live performances, interviews, music videos and more. Only available on this CD. Slipcase. Reprise. 2002.

The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac (2CD) Specifications

Spanning 22 years, this double-disc, 36-track compilation chronicles the initially unlikely and ultimately triumphant conflation of a failing, veteran English neo-blues band (Mick Fleetwood and the McVies) with a pair of mercurial American also-rans (the baroque folk-rock genius Lindsey Buckingham and crypto-songbird Stevie Nicks). The creative alchemy was immediate, as 15 epochal tracks ("Dreams," "Say You Love Me," "The Chain," "Don't Stop") from Fleetwood Mac and Rumours here attest. They could have arguably repeated that mega-successful formula for a decade, but chose a more musically expansive tack, represented "Sara," Think About Me" and the other core tracks drawn from the ambitious Tusk. While the band's megahit luster faded as the solo careers of Buckingham and Nicks took flight in the '80s, their power was still apparent in the dusky-bright pop of Christine McVie's "Hold Me" and "Little Lies." Sequenced with compelling listening rather than chronology in mind, this set also includes the strongest of the Mac's latter-day recordings (Nicks's "Paper Doll," "Silver Springs," and "No Questions Asked"; McVie's "As Long As You Follow"), as well the Lindsey Buckingham showcases "Go Insane" and "Big Love" from '97's The Dance. --Jerry McCulley

The Andy Williams Christmas Show (Live from Branson)

The Andy Williams Christmas Show (Live from Branson) Overview

Christmas would not be merry without Andy Williams. Andy's famous Christmas special was taped live at the fabulous Moon River Theatre in Branson and contains 25 of the world's favorite Christmas songs: It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Christmas Needs Love to be Christmas, Sleigh Ride, I'll Be Home for Christmas, Blue Christmas, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, Jingle Bells, Let It Snow, The Christmas Song, My Favorite Things, Little Snow Girl, White Christmas, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Silver Bells, The Little Drummer Boy, Do You Hear What I Hear?, Mommy Here We Come A-Caroling, Happy Holidays, Angels We Have Heard on High, Joy to the World, O Come All Ye Faithful, The Bells of St. Mary's, Silent Night, O Holy Night, May Each Day.

The Andy Williams Christmas Show (Live from Branson) Specifications

Andy Williams, venerable singing star of countless TV holiday specials, performs onstage at his own theater in Branson, Missouri, before an adoring audience in 1993. Decked out in a succession of sweaters and scarves, Williams does 25 Christmas classics, dances with women wearing reindeer headdresses, sings along with a children's chorus, and welcomes special guests Lorrie Morgan and the Osmond Brothers (who show up wearing jackets featuring rhinestone poinsettias and candy canes). A number of youthful men and women appear throughout in various production numbers, usually dressed as Christmas carolers or partygoers (think more scarves and sweaters), while the band performs on a stage decorated with Christmas trees and lots of fake snow. This is a very professional production, and if it's schmaltzy and utterly middle-of-the-road, that's no doubt what Williams intended. --Robert J. McNamara

Recollection 2 CD Set

Recollection 2 CD Set Overview

k.d. lang is a once-in-a-generation artist who has consistently displayed an extraordinary interpretative range as well as remarkable vocal prowess. It's no wonder she has, over the course of more than two decades, attracted such collaborators as Roy Orbison and Tony Bennett, along with admirers like Philip Glass and Madonna. As lang has matured, she continues to surprise and impress. With the 2008 release of her self-penned, self-produced Nonesuch disc Watershed, Rolling Stone declared, "k.d. lang does what the gifted and the lucky always should: improve as time passes." The Times of London agreed: "It's a quirk of the music industry that one of the sexiest, most sensual voices in all of pop music comes not from some raven-tressed siren in a glitter-dress but a middle-aged woman with a utility haircut and a penchant for male tailoring." lang herself called the album "a culmination of everything I've done -- there's a little bit of jazz, a little country, a little of the Ingénue sound, a little Brazilian touch."

This two-disc retrospective -- which includes favorites like "Constant Craving" and "Smoke Rings," as well as ten tracks that never appeared on k.d. lang albums; and interpretations of classic songs like Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and The Hollies "The Air That I Breathe" -- illustrates how lang got to this significant point in her career, 25 years after the independent release of her debut, A Truly Western Experience. As lang moved from the subversively whimsical cow-punk sound of her early career in Western Canada to a broader pop palette, she has shown an ever-increasing sophistication, both as songwriter and interpreter. Dramatic, country-meets-lounge opener "Trail of Broken Hearts," from her 1989 Grammy Award-winning Absolute Torch and Twang album, encapsulates where she came from and where she was heading. The luxurious adult pop of "Constant Craving," from the platinum-selling 1992 Ingenue, garnered her a Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female Grammy and remains her best known and most successful single. The effervescent "Miss Chatelaine," also from Ingenue, remains a concert favorite and "I Dream of Spring," is a particularly lush example of what she so artfully created for the acclaimed Watershed.

Her bravura rendition of "Crying," originally cut with Orbison for the soundtrack to the movie Hiding Out, has become a showstopper in her live performances, perhaps rivaled only be her beautifully restrained version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." This soaring signature tune appears here as both a new recording, and in its original studio version. On her 2004 Nonesuch debut, Hymns of the 49th Parallel, she explored the work of her fellow Canadian songwriters, including Neil Young ("Helpless") and the woefully underrated Jane Siberry (the sublime "The Valley"). Regardless of its source, her choice of cover material has always been inspired, as evidenced by her take on the Hollies' "The Air That I Breathe," Joni Mitchell's "Help Me," the Beatles' Golden Slumbers," and Chris Isaak's "Western Stars," produced by Nashville legend Owen Bradley, Patsy Cline's mentor, for Shadowlands. lang is equally adept with such standards as Cole Porter's "Love For Sale" and "So In Love," and the jazz classic Moonglow" (performed here with Tony Bennett), and that has endeared her to a multi-generational audience.

SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND - DVD Movie

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Specifications

If it weren't for a couple of inspired performances, as well as the time-capsule weirdness of it all, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band would be definitively unwatchable. This misguided effort to dramatize the classic Beatles album (the Fab Four had nothing to do with it, thank goodness) also includes tunes from other Beatles LPs, strung together in lumbering '70s rock-opera style. Peter Frampton, then at the crest of his brief run at the top, stars as Billy Shears, with the Bee Gees wearing the glossy day-glo band jackets from the Pepper album cover. Earth, Wind & Fire turn in a spirited revamp of "Got to Get You into My Life," and Aerosmith thrash their way through "Come Together"; but most of the performances are pretty awful. Out-and-out novelties include Steve Martin doing "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" and George Burns (but of course) warbling "Fixing a Hole." This high-profile 1978 flop helped kill the hot streak (Saturday Night Fever, Grease) of record and movie producer Robert Stigwood and sink his RSO movie-music empire. --Robert Horton

Back to Bedlam Overview

Simply put, James Blunt is the most successful debut artist of the year in the UK! However, he isn't one of those guys who finished school and set off to become a musician. The one time British army captain (and latest ina long line of Blunts in the armed forces) served stints as a peacekeeper in Kosovo and guard at Buckingham Palace before hanging up his uniform. His days of carrying a gun behind him, Blunt quickly began turning heads with his soaring vocals and stirring songs. His debut album, Back to Bedlam, has earned widespread praise, including comparisons to the likes of Damien Rice, David Gray and a young Elton John.

Back to Bedlam Specifications

As a piece of propaganda, James Blunt’s album Back to Bedlam does more for changing the face of the British Army than a series of television adverts ever could. Swapping a rifle for a guitar, the former cavalryman’s ballad-heavy debut is a clearly aiming to win the battle for the public’s hearts and minds. The U.K. success of singles like "You’re Beautiful" and "No Bravery" (inspired by his time stationed in Bosnia) are both heartfelt and sensitive, the latter packing an additional emotional punch beyond the typical lovelorn ballads of his contemporaries like Damien Rice. But Blunt also sings with conviction about matters of the heart, and that’s the territory that most of Back to Bedlam visits, with songs of loss like "Goodbye My Lover", "So Long Jimmy" and "Billy". And throughout, the arrangements remain understated yet effective, thanks to the input of such heavyweight producers and songwriters like Linda Perry and Guy Chambers. All of which prove that there’s a lot of depth to this modern, musical hero. --Robert Burrow

Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City Music Hall [Blu-ray] Overview

In April 2007, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds embarked on a 3-city theatre tour, culminating with a performance in the intimate confines of Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Due to the smaller sized venues and extremely limited number of dates, tickets were practically impossible to get, making this new 2 disc Blu-ray set all the more desirable to the huge Dave Matthews Band fanbase. LIVE AT RADIO CITY marks the first time in almost ten years that Dave and Tim have released an album. Their last album was the wildly successful, multi-platinum LIVE AT LUTHER COLLEGE. This is the first-ever Blu-ray Disc released by the duo. LIVE AT RADIO CITY features over 2 1/2 hours of music, capturing all 26 songs of Dave and Tim's performance. The performance includes numerous songs that have never been recorded by the two, including Crush, Grace Is Gone, Don t Drink The Water, Gravedigger and many more.

Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City Music Hall [Blu-ray] Specifications

Socialites in the Hamptons paid up to ,000 for the privilege of seeing this duo in action just a few weeks before the release of Live at Radio City Music Hall. Not that it was any easier to get tickets to the April 22, 2007, concert in New York that produced this recording, available on CD or DVD with high-definition 5.1 surround sound and an additional 46-minute film of backstage footage. The acoustic set features the veteran musicians performing for nearly two-and-a-half hours--and you get the feeling they could have easily kept going. Reynolds gets his solo turn on "Betrayal" and "You Are My Sanity," but it's a chatty Matthews who seems to be relishing the occasion more, stripping down some of his band's most popular songs ("Lie in Our Graves," "Two Step") while giving the fans a sneak peek at a couple of its new ones ("Eh Hee," "Cornbread"). The guy's even thrown in a few covers for kicks, including Neil Young's "Down by the River" and Daniel Lanois' "The Maker." In terms of audio quality and packaging, it marks a vast improvement over the pair's first release, 1999's Live at Luther College. And the best part is that it doesn't cost more than a yacht. --Aidin Vaziri
