The album is a classic, I was accidentally introduced the concept of Youtube, and I'm glad I took. Its real music in an organic way you can do, which I appreciate. I shot a dozen of my friends album, which also bought. Also led me to The Black Keys.

Live

Live Overview

Ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro has taken the four-string, two-octave instrument to places no one has gone before, performing awesome music that ranges from Jazz, Blues and Rock to Bluegrass, Classical and Folk. His live concerts are an out-of-the-box blend of stunning virtuosity, deep musicality and a natural entertainer's flair. Jake now has his own record label, and tours extensively in the U.S. and Japan. He has completely rewritten the book on the possibilities of the ukulele -- and is adding new chapters with every CD he records.

Customer Reviews

I caught Jake Shimabukuro in Austin, recently, fresh from a tour with Jimmy Buffett TX. In the live performance was a miracle, his body fell to the ground and waving his fingers flew up and down the keyboard of his ukulele short so that the instrument sounds like a mandolin, flamenco guitar, a piano and various percussion tools. He was not only a player of Smokin 'Hot, though, but a musical style, with a charm in his casual asides to the audience, that I was the night, there wasenthusiastic.

Charisma Shimabukuro pass on this live album taken from various shows in different places, but very consistent in tone and atmosphere. His works include the entire range from the simple charm of the "Piano Forte" for the breathtaking virtuosity of "Let's Dance", and covers everything from Bach to the Beatles, a popular Japanese song "Sakura".

When pressed to the wall, I must admit that without him inMeat, a small sense of similarity creeps in some of his most personal. It is not surprising that one of the best tracks, and who shot him to fame, is a cover to make her beautiful and touching Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." This is a very personal book, and should not discourage anyone from sampling the art of this very special music.

Hotel California

Hotel California Overview

Import pressing of their 1976 album Hotel California. Vinyl replica CD comes housed in a slipcase. Rhino UK. 2006.

Hotel California Specifications

It's no accident that The Eagles Greatest Hits might one day pass Michael Jackson's Thriller as the best-selling album of all time-- the Eagles made great singles. By contrast, their albums could be spotty and strained by self-conscious artistry. Hotel California was arguably the band's best single album--it was certainly the Eagles' biggest original disc-- and it also underscored the band's need to make a big statement. The title tune reflected the album's theme of paradise lost in California, painting this picture with a musical arrangement that punctuated strumming guitars with dramatic drums, and perhaps the band's most famous lyric: "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave." "New Kid in Town" was an equally fine albeit much more traditional Eagles ballad. "Life in the Fast Lane" aspired to hard rock but largely gunned its engine without taking off. The rest is okay, but nothing more than secondary Eagles songs that happened to be nestled into the album that came to define the `70s supergroup. --John Milward

Customer Reviews

This line (from the song title of the album, so of course) more or less in the door. You can try to put down the music, but the fact remains that this music is important for any classic rock / Eagles collection. Has stood the test of time, the songwriting and musicianship are brilliant, and the music itself kicks alone!

The title track starts the album, and boy, what a kick! Go to "Take it Easy" is the only song better (), I believe that the Eagles ever recorded. Then get"The new kid in town", which is a fun song, followed by the hard rocking "Life In The Fast Lane". These are my three favorite songs from the album. The last song is "The Last Resort", a good way to end the album - makes us a sweet finish.

This is highly recommended. Enjoy!

Into the Woods (1987 Original Broadway Cast)

Into the Woods (1987 Original Broadway Cast) Overview

A Classic Stephen Sondheim Musical Available Now at a New Low Price!

Featuresbonus tracks, digitally remastered and new liner notes.

Into the Woods (1987 Original Broadway Cast) Specifications

As conceived by Stephen Sondheim and cocreator James Lapine (following their Pulitzer Prize-winning Sunday in the Park with George), Into the Woods tells the intricate tale of multiple fairy-tale characters crossing paths in the woods, not merely resolving the characters' dilemmas but also exploring what happens after happily ever after. Sondheim's chamber-scale music, recipient of the 1987 Tony for Best Score, is one of his most beautiful and accessible, and is at its most poignant in "No More," "No One Is Alone," and "Children Will Listen." The original Broadway cast is outstanding top to bottom, most notably Bernadette Peters as a rapping witch and Joanna Gleason, who won a Tony for Best Actress. The CD booklet includes production photos and--so important for a Sondheim show--full lyrics. Fortunately, this cast was also captured on video and DVD. --David Horiuchi

Customer Reviews

I was a fan of this music when I make a screening of the PBS is in the early 90s. The musical had an irreverent look, which we all more or less grown up fairy tale.
So I thought it was overshadowed by the successes of Les Miserables and Phantom.
The characters are lovable and voice are easy to follow.
My personal favorite recording is "Agony"

Little Creatures

Little Creatures Overview

David Byrne & Co.'s follow up to the platinum selling "Speaking In Tongues" and the live "Stop Making Sense" albums offered their most pop oriented album ever. This edition includes the bonus track of a 12" version of "The Lady Don't Mind".

Little Creatures Specifications

Having spent the early '80s in a giddy expansion of the sound and scale of their studio recordings and concerts, Talking Heads come full circle with this 1985 album, retracting to the core quartet and restoring a focus on David Byrne's knotty songs. Arriving in the wake of the fevered rhythms of Speaking in Tongues and Stop Making Sense, Little Creatures's new material sounds freshly lyrical, remarkably concise, even subdued, but there's the usual whimsy--the levitating heroine of the jangling, punchy opener, "And She Was," the cracked child-rearing advice of "Stay Up Late," and the galloping, anthemic reminder that we're on the "Road to Nowhere." --Sam Sutherland

Customer Reviews

I had gone back and discovered the brilliance, Talking Heads is now forty years old and adults found that I may have been wrong on "Little Creatures", which actually was the first of their albums I bought as a new version In 1985 I had ignored the "Stop Making Sense", when it was in the standings and only the group for the year ahead. Funny story is that "Little Creatures" was released in the summer I was in a school exchange trip in Germany and the minute someonesaid it was the shops I went out and found a copy on cassette that I made.

At that time it was different, and were one of the band, followed by an artistic group of musicians in urban Angst of my master. At the time I thought it was a pretty cool, if unimaginative record & literally heard non-stop for a couple of weeks traveling throughout Europe. When I returned to the United States and the album for my friends I was a bit 'appalled to hear their views, to play, that theThe book was sold out, and below the waist, in the crush of the record soon fell into disgrace, while also quickly sold, more mainstream audience. But after hearing the great songs (the annoying "And She Was" and "Road To Nowhere ") proposed in college, bars that have sold to God, even if the music was still pretty decent.

Then came "True Stories" and it became clear that David Byrne Pop was gone, and the rest of the band had gone with him. Boo hoo. "Wild Wild Life"As the only success was the last straw, so to speak, and I more or less abandoned Talking Heads as a functional unit, to "Naked", with the time it was too late. Until 1989, the group had a tour of life, divided by all intents and purposes, and I never even see them live. The disappointment is still enormous.

One of the unfortunate consequences of this disappointment was that I was back on pop-Talking Heads-era - so far I have never owned a copy of "TrueAlbum Stories', though I liked the movie - and the victim was probably the largest "Little Creatures", which literally has not had too many, many years. Apart from the shocking 12-inch remix of "Lady Don 't Find Mind" (which later versions of British imports of the CD is to buy the recommended version) and the brilliant "Television Man", the audience has always been a of my favorite songs, Talking Heads, "Little Creatures" done my liver shrug. I put it aside and did my bestForgot to do it for more than 20 years, managing a good job.

This is due to hear, like a grown man, and because in hindsight be able to return to all Talking Heads career 'in 2008, now look after it and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2004), is quite clear that "Little Creatures" has played an important if misunderstood - at least from me - the role in the development of an angular post-punk rock band in the ArtsPowerhouse, the music transcends mere cultural considerations, such as gender or economic attractiveness vs. aesthetics underground.

My opinion about the album now, 20 years later, is that it's actually a pretty decent disc that just happened to have a couple of songs very annoying. In particular, the opening "And she was" like an annoying pop single I've ever heard, and "Creatures Of Love", an ode to the country more regularly purchased, and manage the search for love on the proceduresat the same time, which is easily my choice for most Awful Talking Heads song ever. I even managed to "Road to Nowhere", and was a popular favorite, although I must say that there is something special is happening in the song ... Maybe a strong awareness that the band was both metaphorical and literal Road To Nowhere, and it was probably time for them to end their union. Hear it kind of sends a shiver down my back as a text by David Byrne is a way of sayingThe story of how it all came from crumbling.

Other titles, however, remains open genius: "Television Man", "Lady Do not Mind," the creepy "Walk It Town," tamed disarming "Perfect World" and "Stay Up Late" and "Give Me Back My Name, "the wonder as David Byrne, returns for his private life, with a pop culture seems to be a superstar. Come on, remember that tamed the entire album, and also cuts annoying (and the setting lyrical Byrne was) For the love of his life, the designer Adelle Lutz costumes are actually quite audible over all the crap I have taken into account in record stores for ten years. "Little Creatures" is not the strongest hours Talking Heads', but weak, Talking Heads, is better than 99.9% of the punk / rock / pop music ever composed, so that you can do much worse. It is hard not to like a big hall and I can easily recommend to anyone who has an interest.

One problem that I have a lot of people seecommented in relation to the Talking Heads tried a CD of "first choice" recommendation for young listeners who love to discover what turns the confusion is everything with this band. Although it was a commercial success, I would not vote "Little Creatures", but a nod in the direction of one of their first minimalist masterpiece "More Songs About Buildings and Food", or making critical focus, "Speaking In Tongues" that really broke open the doors for them. "Little Creatures" is probably laterOnce you've got to be used as, David Byrne and are comfortable with the sound of the band. Until then, you will find a better feel for why it is disappointing that the fans when compared to what has happened, though now 20 years on the road again, he sounds good.

TP-2.Com

TP-2.Com Overview

The King of R&B Lovers Rock Returns with his Smooth Grooves and Distinct Arrangements that Continue to Set Ladies' Hearts on Fire with Desire.

TP-2.Com Specifications

The first single off of R. Kelly's TP-2.com, "I Wish," might be a moving memorial to a dead friend, but the main theme on his latest CD is sex. The first tip-off that Kelly has left the spirit world to concentrate on nookie is the CD title, which refers back to his mid-'90s smash 12 Play. Back then, Kelly made his name with a take-no-prisoners (if somewhat obvious) sensuality. Yet now this loveman sounds conflicted and ill at ease. He might offer to "Strip for You," he might lay claim for a girl who's "Like a Real Freak," he might even promise his lady "The Greatest Sex," but his manner is so tentative and so self-reflective it makes one wonder how hot the loving could really be. Kelly has been expanding his creative repertoire over the course of his past two CDs, and his latest motif is a sort of stream-of-consciousness style that constantly returns to the main thrust of the argument: a circular groove. At its best (the triumphant "I Wish"), this style is emotional and emphatic. At its worst, or when Kelly insists on using it over and over, it's the musical equivalent of having a drunk poke you in the arm repeatedly to make his point. On "Fiesta," Kelly literally builds a song out of this annoying rhythmic tic, and it's like he's on a treadmill, never getting anywhere. TP-2.com is raw and romantic, but it becomes too redundant to truly sustain the passion. --Amy Linden

Customer Reviews

Normally I like to see much more in depth with my reviews and actually last album for you guys. But honestly, there's really not much to say about this album as well as Best R & B albums of the past 20 years, from the Best R & B singer / producer / songwriter of the last 20 years. There really is no words, really amazing how this album can be expressed. The treasure of the league itself. And the sad thing is that this album is really looking over a lot. It does not get nearlyIt deserves. R. Kelly has created a masterpiece with this album. This album is what has contributed to R. Kelly, the legend he is today. He is our generation, Marvin Gaye, but better. No offense to Marvin because he is a legend, as well, but Marvin was not able to half of what he achieved Kells. And this album shows Kells as a bright star. His star is fading. But I think that it is under the credit it deserves. People should not be, even taking into account better than R. UsherKelly. Porter even close. Usher is damn good, I love Usher. But none comes close to R. Kelly. Say what you want about his private life, and his scandals, but it is in the music industry, simply untouchable. This album could not have been done by any other artist in the industry. TP2 is front to back classics. Every song is good, so dont think I can really say much about all the songs in particular. I mean, when I need to choose a song that I like the best thing would be aToss up between sugary sweet mellow acoustic laced "All I Really Want," the last love song that makes you want to just madly in love "Just Like That" and the song really good mid-tempo love "I Decided" . And the other 16 tracks are equally good. Just trust me, if you take any kind of respect for the man or the genre, buy the album.

Welcome to the Masquerade

Welcome to the Masquerade Overview

Thousand Foot Krutch is back with their most ambitious release to date, Welcome To The Masquerade, co-produced by Aaron Sprinkle and Trevor McNevan. The Album features the singles Forward Motion and Bring Me To Life. Welcome to the Masquerade reveals what Thousand Foot Krutch continues to learn from its growing legion of fans. Their unique approach to music--often as heady as it is heavy--creates a space where it's safe to go deep one moment and just cut loose the next.

Customer Reviews

Ok, most of the reviews here of this album than TFK previous version (and perhaps better) phenomenon. If you compare this CD? ABSOLUTELY! Masquerade In fact, it seems a 180 degree turn of the last two albums TFK, including the band at their rough, irritated roots off (Set is different). Others are comparing album Awake Skillet, I find very little to compare here. Awake is a complete regurgitation during Comatose Masquerade TFK is complete and the revival of the style andTone that has characterized the group from itself. This album is perfect for business or for those days when you feel very aggressive on the street (but see how songs like "Fire It Up" and "Smackdown" for speeding involuntary) shift lol. The songs of the album are slower to adjust the flow of the album and am pretty aggressive and pleasant. Total Masquerade is a great CD that deserves much more attention than it gets. Pick it up and crank it will not bebe disappointed.

Good Girl Gone Bad Live [Blu-ray]

Good Girl Gone Bad Live [Blu-ray] Overview

Studio: Uni Dist Corp (music) Release Date: 10/27/2009

Customer Reviews

The Blu-ray concert was very dignified. Maybe I expected more from its individual tracks which issued over the years. But her performance on the Blu-ray was great. Rihanna knows how to put on a show. IMHO, I think it's the only entertainer who can pull her hair and clothes. The look behind the scenes aside, but in the short, but happy to see how it was done for the concert together. Accent Rihanna is great. Fell in love all over again.

Overall,As I said, the disc was decent. Rihanna's music, if you like that a Blu-ray would have to buy. Moreover, it is so expensive. Enjoy!

The Wall (Deluxe Packaging Digitally Remastered) Specifications

The Wall is less a collection of songs than a single work, which is sometimes frustrating; the plot lacks enough coherence to hold the snippets of music together. However, there are occasional flashes of brilliance on what ranks as Pink Floyd's most ambitious project. Most of these come from the fully developed songs, which have become classics in their own right. "Hey You," "Mother," and especially "Comfortably Numb" are subtle, incredible pieces of music. Though complex, they move at a relaxed pace, allowing the listener to absorb them slowly; this kind of pacing was something Pink Floyd excelled at. Also worth noting is the "Another Brick in the Wall/The Happiest Days of Our Lives" medley, which has become a staple of rock radio. --Genevieve Williams

Media Type: CD
Artist: MITCHELL,JONI
Title: LADIES OF THE CANYON
Street Release Date: 11/17/1987
Domestic
Genre: ROCK/POP

Ladies of the Canyon Specifications

Joni Mitchell's third album offers a bridge between the artful but sometimes dour meditations of her earlier work and the more mature, confessional revelations of the classics that would follow. Voice and guitar still hew to the pretty filigree of a folk poet, but there's the giggling rush of rock & roll freedom in "Big Yellow Taxi," and the formal metaphor of her older songs ("The Circle Game," already oft-covered by the time of this recording) yields to the more impressionistic images of the new ones ("Woodstock"). The dark lyricism of her earliest ballads is intact (on "For Free" and "Rainy Night House"), yet there's a prevailing idealism here that sounds poignant alongside the warier, more mature songs to come on Blue and Court And Spark. --Sam Sutherland

Customer Reviews

This was the third album by Jon and it was due to clouds, the versions on the album with Both Sides Now Joni just tomorrow and Chelsea. The expectations for this album were probably very high in terms of their release. These expectations were fully away from people like Joni their roots a bit 'using a bit' wider musical accompaniment, particularly justified the addition of a piano. I love the little support that Joni used the song of a seagull and the clouds, but I'm in the minorityFolk stated that way. I suspect that most people, the slight change in the way you welcomed here. It 'still easily recognizable, like folk music, something that can not be told by Joni albums from the mid-seventies, although I love the album, but in a different way.

The songs here are excellent. The first piece, Morning Morgantown, paints a picture of the city every day in the morning. In the next song guilt Joni express themselves through paidfor voice, in contrast to their situation with that of a street musician playing the clarinet for free. Many other classic songs follow, but I quote only the last three tracks.

Joni wrote Woodstock, which then gives a number one UK hit with a cover of Matthews Southern Comfort, although not actually reproduce the famous case. Big Yellow Taxi, revoked the single from the album, Joni came with his only major UK hit single, narrowly missing the top ten. It's a great songrelevant that in the past year, in 1970, commented on how much of the natural world for the development of a type or destroyed. The album closes with Circle Game, a great song, like life just goes in circles.

Joni recorded many albums of great music styles, but these prices are certainly one of their best, as far as I'm concerned.

Do You Want the Truth Or Something Beautiful

Do You Want the Truth Or Something Beautiful Overview

Hackney-born 25-year-old singer Paloma Faith has been collecting critical acclaim throughout 2009, and it's easy to see why. Her songs shine with soulful pop perfection and the unmistakable stamp of her inimitable persona. She draws on influences as diverse as Billie Holiday, Etta James, P J Harvey and Edith Piaf. Like her music, Paloma's story never fails to thrill. In the lead up to her becoming a singer, she has been a magician's assistant, trained contemporary dancer, St. Martin's alumni with an MA in theatre direction, a performer in burlesque shows, and an actress. Paloma wrote her debut album in the UK, Sweden and America and recorded it entirely in London. The album features writing collaborations with Ed Harcourt, Jodi Marr (Mika), Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Kylie), Steve Robson (Take That) and Jorgen Elofsson. Epic. 2009.

Customer Reviews

Not after the first hearing, Amy Enoteca "You Know I'm No Good" I have been completely blown away by a new artist. And who knows Paloma, comparison with Amy Winehouse is not new. Was initially offered a background singer in the direction of Winehouse. Yes, at first hear sounds like a tear Amy / Duffy. But actally If you take the time to listen to their lyrics and the arrangement of their beautiful songs. They come to discover that it is better on the same parbefore and vocally / lyrically better than the first. Their album Hawkins returns to the sounds of jazz 50's / 60 and American R & B. It is obvious that they were very vocal by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald (Upside Down, Broken Doll, Romance Is Dead ") and Etta James memorable fascinating climax to the track" infuenced Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful "(Broken Doll Smoke & Mirrors & New York). They did fit into the current flow of women London as Amy Winehouse,Duffy, Noisettes singer Shingai Shoniwa, Adele & VV Brown evkoing the sounds of the past, crun women. Aber gelingt Paloma, die sound off der besten meiner Meinung nach zu ziehen, würdigen, aber immer noch der Suche nach einem Stück ihrer eigenen Vibe in den Prozess.

1.Stone Cold Sober 7 / 10 - Are you an R & B influence on the time consistent with the horns and the end of the '60s Stax soul mood. Paloma vocals are full and fiesty here. She explained that they have a lover, "I have wind wilder / 190 mph /I'm in a totally different dimension / dance double in the ground / You think I'm crazy / a Hazzy po '/ But I'm dead sober. "A lovely kiss off course and the introduction of this album.

2.Smoke & Mirrors 8 / 10 - This song begins with the singing Paloma in full force with a single strike of a guitar. You could get a Winehouse "Love Is A Losing Game" and "Wake Up Alone" to this state of mind. But the up-time funk groove kicks in 7 seconds into the song there is this melody of their lives. Iespecially liked the back-up harmonies to the melody of the chorus.

3.Broken Doll 9 / 10 - Like "Smoke & Mirrors" voice Paloma begin this melody. But during this time of strings. The song has a nice soft midtempo R & B mood. Mit der Unterstützung der Saiten zu schlagen, alte und neue Stile verbindet es in einer Weise angenehmen. Paloma vocals are nearly perfect on this track. The agreement is impeccable, with the choir is approaching the end of the book. Paloma showsVulnerability on this track, singing "I do not claim to be perfect / I know I'm Damaged Goods / But I want to be left out of the darkness / as any woman would."
This is just a beautiful melody all around.

4.Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful 8/10- if you have not already done so, I suggest you listen to the lyrics in this song. Erie Paloma tells the story of this song during the verses. My favorite lines are: "I'm glad you're crazy" and "I can be anything you want me to dobe / But you want me. "The layout is excellent tool here. Spectoresque with the orchestra, this is an album highlight.

5.Upside Down 7 / 10 - an uptempo song, heavy on mood swings. Vocals Paloma fell in love here. A male singer to go with her support.

6.Romance is Dead 8 / 10 - I love this song, Paloma sings about a relationship that loses ramance. Like her lover has lost his chivalrous way, such as plastic flowers and a greasy fingersprinted birthday. Sing "I asked for a letter / email A / we go wrong?".

7.New York 10/10 - The passage best album hands down. Paloma tells of a lover has left him for another woman. The lady is in New York. I can not only its chorus' name had come to New York, New York, and took his heart away from me / you have been appointed New York, New York, he finds his sweet spirit poisend. "This is a another track where you have only to listen to the song. The way in whichPaloma offers it's perfect. By the provision of tools to support Chior, beautiful voice of Paloma, everything is just incredible.

8.Stargazer 10/10 - Another great reason for this album. Second Best, "New York". The melody is great and phosphors. Paloma tells a beautiful story of two lovers Star Crossed slow this melody. You will notice that her voice becomes stronger as the album continues. Their roots are set in the '50s and the atmosphere 60 years. But I have a 80's R & B vibethis song. Think Klymaxx "I Miss You".

9.My legs are weak, such as 9 / 10 - I must, I have a particular tune Winehouse "Back to Black" and "Love Is A Losing Game" from the beginning of this state of mind. But that pales when unfolding the melody. This is another album highlight. Paloma singing here is strong. The song is based then disappears altogether. The faint sound of a trumpet, at the end of the route, made this song for me. Sent Paloma is a place where very rare for an artist of his agego these days with their music. This song was a great feeling.

10.Play The 9 / 10 - Great album closer. Very cinematic. Paloma lyrically demonstrates once again that she very competently on their own this tune.

All in all, this album is a must-have of 2010. I hope that over time they will gain steam. If you like all the other women that I mentioned in this report, then I suggest you get this album.

I'm sure a synthesizeror two have done in the final mix, but most of clarity is probably the album Modern engineers and studio musicians, including Trio Musette de Paris credited with suspicion. I personally do not have the authentic feel private because of a clear sound. I take every day when compared to other compositions sound as if the transfer of registration with tin cans, the cassette, then transferred to CD.

This is really a little jewel, if you like instrumental musicwith classic French flair. For the retail price is stealing.

8 months my daughter loves this show! She Claps and dances for music and is just fascinated with him. We collect all the characters just for her - she loves to pull them apart, together and then glue them together again. They are great learning tool ... we use them to enter letters, the sounds they make, the sounds they make when they meet and then the word itself! An instrument of great teams.

Bizet: Carmen

Bizet: Carmen Overview

Jonas Kaufmann and Anna Caterina Antonacci bring rare erotic intensity to the drama of Don José and Carmen in this darkly passionate reading of one of the most popular operas. Kaufmann uses his burnished tenor and smouldering good looks to portray the man undone by Carmen's love. As the object of his desire, Antonacci gives a physical and compelling performance.

Bizet: Carmen Specifications

This Covent Garden production of Bizet’s Carmen, makes a vivid musical and dramatic impression. Director Francesca Zambello creates a properly Spanish atmosphere, filling the stage with a profusion of detailed characters. In Act One’s town square each of the many soldiers, strollers, cigarette factory girls, and children are individuals, so there’s a bustle of continuous, realistic activity. That attention to detail carries over to the rest of the opera, involving viewers in the action. Tanya McCallin’s sets are a perfect foil for the direction: simple, movable panels that serve as lightly sketched backdrops for the town square, a tavern, the smugglers’ mountain hideaway, and the final scene in front of the bull ring. But what makes this Carmen special is the singing and acting of the principals. Carmen is Anna Caterina Antonacci, a soprano known for the intensity she brings to her performances. Without taking anything to excess, her Carmen is a fiery temptress, sexy, insistent on setting her own terms for love and personal freedom. She sings all the set pieces well and, with tenor Jonas Kaufmann as her besotted lover, Don José, makes the final scene a hair-raising experience. If anything, Kaufmann trumps her with a beautifully sung, rounded portrait of the village boy turned soldier ensnared in a world beyond his experience. Kaufmann conveys the complexity of the character and etches his slow descent into obsessive madness. His rendition of the Flower Song is extraordinary for beauty of tone, phrasing and the soft singing essential to make this aria’s full impact. The toreador, Escamilio, is finely sung and acted by Ildebrando D’Arcangelo. He makes his entrance on horseback, sings the Toreador Song with brash arrogance, and projects this haughty, self-absorbed figure to perfection. And Norah Amsellem, as the village girl who loves Don José, uses her attractive soprano to depict her purity and innocence. Smaller roles are well done, with special mention due to bass Matthew Rose as Zuniga, the lieutenant of the guard. The vibrant conducting of Antonio Pappano is a big plus here; pacing is perfect, rhythms vibrantly precise, and melodies shaped with care. Under his baton, the Royal Opera House chorus and orchestra complete a rich, well-detailed performance of Bizet’s masterpiece. Lighting designs of Paule Constable add to the atmosphere of each scene, while television director Jonathan Haswell’s cameras always seem to be where they should be. --Dan Davis

Carmen is an all-regions disc in 16:9 ratio. Sound options include PCM Stereo and DTS 5.1 Surrdound. Sung in French, subtitles include English, French, German, Spanish and Chinese.

Customer Reviews

I am fairly new opera that is why my review with a grain of salt. I saw the wonderful film by Carlos Saura, Carmen, on the basis of the work. This absolutely blew away and I highly recommend. So I have some high voltage power supply was to be here. Perhaps my expectations were too high, when the first acts of the opera a little 'slowly found. I thought, "is the English version of French views against the Spanish?"

I loved the landscape and the cotumes and found theStaging and lighting very nice. The support cast was good. Gypsey The group was particularly interesting because it seemed to sing for their beauty and choose their skills. This makes for a pleasant viewing experience. The kids were adorable!

I think that view after a lifetime of movie I expect to see interesting people and do good, although I am sure that the vocal prowess is the first thing to be considered a star of the Opera. ItFor this reason, I was less than the power of Anna Caterina Antonacci enchanted. When I was at drama school, we were playing against a quality warned again and again. I wish someone would give Ms. Antonacci this advice. Sounds "gay" over and over again. We certainly had the idea in particular with his blouses cut very low, but after a while, 'was his tedious performance. I have not seen anything real nature --- Carmen Don José has ever really love? Why did he lose interestin it? She did really love Escamillo? It was she able to love someone? She is portrayed as a one-dimensional cliche that I really lost interest in her. Perhaps what bothered me most was their constant mocking expression. There were a few brief moments, particularly the first scene, which showed a complete smile and she was really beautiful then. Is not physical, that nice, Gypsey many of the other girls were much more beautiful, it seems that they should have shownto get any kind of spark or charisma, these men risk their lives for it. I think this kind of "action" the right thing for the theater, where strong emotions is essential to the project, but when you film, we need to see the small, subtle facial expressions. This is what Kauffman so well and what has not done too Antonacci.

Kauffman was sensational! This is an artist who can act, sing and too much. His facial expressions are wonderful, if from the beginningDiscounts that the antics of Wiley opera Carmen as we see him descend into madness near his passion for them. Was thorougly convincing as a real person who stole my heart, so that the last scene when he kills Carmen, I cried for him. For them ... Good Riddance. The last scene between the two of them are riveting, primarily because of his performance.

I'm in love with Ildebrando D'Arcangelo as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro "with Anna Netrebko, and I was pleasedTo see him here as Escamillo. This role fits her wondrous beauty, and deep voice, and he plays the role of fiery toreodor a T-shirt.
The duel between Don José and Esmaillo was one of the best scenes of the work for me.

The last two acts are, when the land is thicker and a little 'heat, so I have to say that I enjoy. Carmen is a cute, had a total crush. Perhaps Anna Netrebko?

It's Time

It's Time Overview

Michael Buble, It's Time

It's Time Specifications

Michael Bublé's assured debut and the tireless year of globe-trotting touring he spent promoting it elevated the 20-something Vancouver native into the first rank of pop crooner revivalists. His sophomore studio follow-up largely turns on the same formula that helped make his considerable vocal prowess so attractive to mainstream audiences, mixing the nigh flawless, if expected Sinatra-channeling ("I've Got You Under My Skin") with more playful and inviting renditions of pop standards like the Gershwin's "A Foggy Day in London Town," "Feeling Good," "Try A Little Tenderness" and Cole Porter's "I've Got You Under My Skin." But it's the eclectic mix of more contemporary material the singer seasons them with -- apt tribute to Bublé hero Bobby Darin -- that keeps him walking the narrow tightrope between artistic intrigue (a blues-tinged vamp of Holland-Dozier-Holland's "How Sweet It Is," Leon Russell's lovely "Song For You," with a guest turn by Chris Botti) and the kitsch-laden abyss ("Quando, Quando, Quando"'s Euro-centric duet with Nelly Furtado, a ring-a-ding-fling with the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" that echoes fellow Canadian crooner/rival Matt Dusk's more successful flirtation with Lennon-McCartney). Arranger/producer Tommy LiPuma offers Bublé a welcome swinging jazz showcase on "The More I See of You," a bracing respite from the rest of producer David Foster's slick, if typically bloodless MOR production. -- Jerry McCulley [Note: A special edition including two bonus tracks--"Dream a Little Dream" and "Mack the Knife"--is also available.]

Customer Reviews

Okay, when I got this album, I was incredibly excited. I thought it was very slow, monotonous and boring songs that put me to sleep. But I was proven wrong. His voice is incredible and is very close to the likeness of the pop legend Frank Sinatra. But at the same time manages to maintain her signature style, which makes it truly unique. I loved songs like ten of them, and I thought it was decent. If you love Sinatra, in any case, try, but even if you do notyet to try it. It may surprise you how beautiful and magical it really is.

What's the 411?

What's the 411? Overview

No Description Available
No Track Information Available
Media Type: CD
Artist: BLIGE,MARY J.
Title: WHAT'S THE 411?
Street Release Date: 07/28/1992
Domestic
Genre: SOUL/R & B

What's the 411? Specifications

Perhaps the true test of a classic is this: something that's commonplace now but at the time appeared revolutionary. The notion that a female R&B singer could be as informed by the Real Roxanne as she was by Aretha Franklin, that she could give love to the streets and the roughnecks--while still delivering soul-drenched love songs that came from that wounded womanly space--was, in a word, groundbreaking. It was the sound of the New Jills, and of a new genre, aptly called hip-hop soul. Featuring production from a then-upstart Puffy, and a collection of songs that alternately swagger and seduce--"You Remind Me," "Real Love," "Reminisce"--What's the 411? may not be Blige's finest work (that honor may go to its moody follow-up, My Life). But its ghetto-fied grooves dominated the radio then, and they still sound fierce today, even with a slew of lesser imitators attempting to do what the rough and ready Blige did so effortlessly back in the day. --Amy Linden

Customer Reviews

Maria's first album "What's the 411?" In my opinion their best album. His singing is impeccable here, and the songs are all good. I see no fillers.
-Reminisce: 5 / 5
Real Love: 5 / 5 One of my favorites on the album ... I love the remix, as well as
-You Remind Me: 5 / 5 and one of my favorites
Sweet Thing: 5 / 5 A good remake of Chaka Khan Sweet Thing. I think that both versions of good and Mary has a great job on them.
Love No Limit: 4.5/5...I personally prefer the remix of LoveNo limits to the "What's the 411?" Remix "CD.
I Do not Want To Do Anything: 5 / 5 Another Favorite
Slow Down 4.5 / 5 Good song, but not the best for the album
-My Love 4.5 / 5
-The changes I've been going 5 / 5 Another Favorite
-What 's the 411? 4.5 / 5

This album shows there's definitely Mary J singing to her. Although I love "My Life" and I think that the album a few filler. I think, "What's the 411?" and "What's the 411?" remix "shows her Mary J BligeBest.

Stranger Safety

Stranger Safety Overview

A message from John Walsh: I'm the host of a television show that I wish wasn't needed. But it is. Thankfully, 38 missing children have been recovered by our work at "America's Most Wanted." In 1981, the lives of my wife Reve and I were changed forever. Our beautiful son Adam was abducted from a mall in a nice area of South Florida. Sadly, two weeks into the biggest search for a child ever in Florida, our son was found murdered. In my quest to find justice and fight back for victims, I lobbied Congress to change the laws and to change how police search for missing children. I'm proud to say that the movement I started is still going strong. There's a national organization dedicated to helping children (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children) and now this country and its media are beginning to understand that our children need to be informed about how to stay safe. In 1981 not much was known about child abduction and exploitation. Parents knew very little and, tragically, children knew even less. Today we're proud of the awareness that children have about the dangers that face them. Children see images everywhere of kidnappings and exploitation. We only need to think about what we've seen in the past year--pedophiles in the clergy, Internet predators, and others who are in positions to take advantage of children's trust in them--to know that kids are still being victimized at an alarming rate. I hope that's about to change. As a crime fighter and host of a popular TV program that has saved lives, I'm proud to be teaming up with a woman who knows how to teach children. Kids want to know what to do, and parents need to be prepared. Like me, Julie Clark is a parent who cares. She has a proven track record of teaching kids. Her passion and experience make this series of safety videos for children something that parents and kids will want to watch. Now parents and kids will do what I've been doing for more than 23 years--they'll fight back.

Stranger Safety Specifications

Kid safety is an important, yet often difficult topic of discussion between parents and children. The Safe Side's "Safe Side Super-Chick" is a decidedly zany host who successfully combines slapstick humor with serious, practical safety tips for kids. "Safe Side Super-Chick" breaks the population down into three quickly discernable categories: "Safe Side Adults" that kids know well and can always trust to keep them safe, "Don't Knows" like the mail carrier or the lady at the park and "Sorta Knows" like a coach or a schoolmate's parent. As "Safe Side Super-Chick" interacts with "Don't Knows" and "Sorta Knows", she offers seven specific safety tips to keep kids safe and, with the help of real kids, details simple, concrete actions and phrases that empower kids in a variety of potentially dangerous situations. Best of all, the presentation is never scary, but always extremely funny--that means that kids ages 2 to 10 will actually enjoy learning about safety. Kudos to Julie Clark (creator of Baby Einstein) and John Walsh (host of America's Most Wanted) for creating a safety video that's highly entertaining, informative, and practical. --Tami Horiuchi

We bought when my daughter was 4 I was not sure how to spread this important message, without fear of them. But this DVD was a big help! We have seen many times. We see them together. We discuss, as we watch. We practice what we have learned so much. The more we have seen, the trust has more than that, in the case of a foreigner to win. I advised my brother to his daughter, and my cousin for her son. It's never too early toDanger stranger. " This DVD makes it easy to talk and help children to understand who is a stranger in a comfortable way. I can not get enough of it. My daughter is older now, and we always consciously see again, just about.

Live in Paris

Live in Paris Overview

Canadian version of 2002 live release includes one exclusive bonus track, 'Charmed Life' & the U.S. bonus track, 'Just The Way You Are' (Studio Version/Billy Joel cover). The first-ever live concert recording from Grammy winning vocalist/pianist Diana Krall, recorded at the Paris Olympia Theatre winter 2002. Here finally, captured in amazing audio quality, is an album showcasing the magic of Krall's concert performances. Krall & her band - perform some of the tunes from Krall's studio recordings, such as 'East of the Sun (West of the Moon)' & 'Devil May Care'. Joined by special guests John Pisano (acoustic guitar) & Paulinho DaCosta (percussion) for several tracks, including the Gershwin's 'S'wonderful'. The Orchestre Symphonique European, conducted by Alan Broadbent with special guest conductor Claus Ogerman, is featured on the upbeat 'Let's Fall in Love' & a haunting interpretation of 'I've Got You

Live in Paris Specifications

Recorded at the historic Olympia Theatre in Paris in November 2001, this is Diana Krall's first live album. Backed by her quicksilver combo of bassist John Clayton, drummer Jeff Hamilton, and guitarist John Pisano (on some tracks), Krall's jazz heritage comes through loud and clear on this program of standards, ballads, and bossa novas. On Peggy Lee's "I Love Being Here with You," Bob Dorough's "Devil May Care," and Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon," Krall's snappy, postbop piano playing shows off her debt to Nat "King" Cole and Jimmy Rowles. Her cool contralto vocals are illuminated by the Orchestre Symphonique Europeen, under the direction of Alan Broadbent, as well as the London Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Claus Ogerman. Krall's deep take on Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" is a great choice for an encore, and the CD concludes with Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" (a studio track from a film called The Guru), with tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker and bassist Christian McBride. This collection only hints at what Diana Krall has to offer in the future.--Eugene Holley Jr.

Customer Reviews

I recently downloaded several songs from that album. A truly fabulous collection - perhaps their best. His voice is in great shape, the songs right along, is to receive his band. Krall is not only a good singer, but an excellent jazz pianist. Similarly, the production of the work is very good - no amount of random sounds, which are often heard live recordings. I play this music while I work, work in the gym, walking outdoors, cooking. The perfect antidote for a gray day in winterChicago.

Broken Bridges

Broken Bridges Overview

Though fans shouldn't mistake this various-artists soundtrack for the next Toby Keith album, the music for Keith's star-turn film (also featuring Kelly Preston, Burt Reynolds, and Willie Nelson) builds from reflective balladry to unbridled, triumphant rock. It may be hard to separate the thematic sequencing from the movie it accompanies, but the soundtrack itself tells a story. It begins with Keith's melancholy, violin-drenched duet with Lindsey Haun on the title track; progresses through the spiritual uplift of a revival of "Uncloudy Day" that finds Willie Nelson and BeBe Winans joining Keith, as well as Sonya Isaacs's testament to faith on "The Battlefield" (with harmonies by Vince Gill); and culminates in the rambunctious "Big Bull Rider," the bluesy boogie of "Zig Zag Stop," and the full-throttle rock 'n' roll of the closing "Jacky Don Tucker (Play by the Rules, Miss All the Fun)." Matraca Berg, Fred Eaglesmith, and Keith's running buddy Scotty Emerick are among the others contributing tracks. While Keith sings on only 7 of the 13 cuts, there's a unifying vision throughout. --Don McLeese

Genius Loves Company

Genius Loves Company Overview

DVD is NTSC format, region code 2

Genius Loves Company Specifications

The fact that Genius Loves Company will be Ray Charles's final new album inspires an unavoidable blue feeling. But it's also a happy reminder that the man spent the last months of his life at work doing what he loved. The overall effect of these dozen duets is autumnal and smooth. Brother Ray is on point and cruising here. Fine moments abound--you can hear his delight even in the rather stiff company of Diana Krall and Natalie Cole. His voice sounds a bit frayed by ill health at times, but it also allows for great performances like the slyness behind the ache in his version of the old soul hit "Hey Girl" with Michael McDonald and a grand "Crazy Love" with Van Morrison. Potently, he and Gladys Knight remind us of the continued timeliness of Stevie Wonder's "Heaven Help Us All." Its best moments make Company one more essential purchase for Ray Charles fans. --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews

Ray's voice is very small, and Fraile, but remember the man who was 74 (seventy-four) years! There is no let-me-get-on-the phone-and-play-this-for one-to-play songs here. "Here We Go Again" with Norah Jones was the cut that many of the Grammy Awards, won ... How? ... We'll never know (they say games against the version "original" of 1967, and then me, that sounds a lot better?). A total of 14 (fourteen) won a Grammy Award for the album! I truly believe that thiswas awarded the Grammy voters, and say all the other easy-to-RAY CHARLES, THANKS TO GIVE U.S. MORE THAN 50 YEARS OF HISTORY Performing shots!

Album highlights: "Hey Girl" with Michael McDonald, "Over The Rainbow" with Johnny Mathis, was conducted during the separation of the body believed Ray during his television address Homegoing Service ... That should tell you how great this song!, Is "Crazy Love" by Van Morrison. That was a nice way of a long career in this field that we call music. NowThe story does not end here ... Rhino / Atlantic commuter traffic released an album of duets recorded in 1997-1998 under the title "Genuis And Friends," which is an album best, but because of Rhino tries to cash in "Genius Loves Company," is was met with so-so reviews, lackluster sales and Light airplay, but it's worth it in your collection. In 2005, there was a box set that, in all his recordings Atlantic Records (1952-1959). There was a lot of surprises, because if Ray signed with ABC RecordsEnd of 1959, Atlantic was grab almost everything in the cellars and releasing albums and singles, so there are no big surprises on the box set. If I save enough $ $ $, it seems to me a copy (and make sure not ... Stay tuned!).

End of 1959, Ray signed with ABC Records, who have complete control over his recordings. That idea, that he (Ray) done with them (ABC), would give birth to Gren, so that the early years (1959-1964) who had several singles that never managed toAlbum (Not that they were bad, were not exactly easy for the exit of the disc included). What you see are still at least 12 (twelve) from the moment the light on compact disc! And another 12 (twelve) or more, 1965-1973. In 1965, Ray opened his studio RPMs and the core of his shots were there until his death in June 0f 2004 Ray will remain with ABC Records, for a total of 14 years! So you can imagine how many unreleased recordings, sitting in the basement? AndThis is only the ABC years (1959-1973). In 1974, Ray formed Crossover Records and released several independent albums ... They have a contract with Atlantic Records (with its imprint Records crossover). So, in short, there is a wealth of unreleased recordings! I hope that some record company makes us happy, a day before ... The only thing we can do now is hope.

Genre: ROCK/POP

Transformer Specifications

This sophomore release by the Velvet Underground cofounder has long been hailed as one of the key touchstones of the punk and alternative eras that followed it. Reinforcing the literary adage to "write what you know," Reed paints an alternately detached/debauched portrait of the drag-and-drugs-infused underground of Warhol's New York, a place, time, and mindset so compelling it has largely overshadowed the rest of the singer-songwriter's mercurial career. That the album would also give Reed an unlikely Top 20 pop hit via the teasing, twisted sexuality of "Walk on the Wild Side" is but one of its deep, rewarding ironies. Indeed, as produced by David Bowie and guitarist and cohort Mick Ronson at the height of their own Ziggy Stardust fame, Reed's songs are cast in a seductive cabaret setting that's more Jacques Brel than Lower East Side. This 30th-anniversary edition features two unreleased acoustic demos ("Hangin' 'Round," "Perfect Day"), a vintage radio spot by announcer and word-jazz cult fave Ken Nordine, and a new illustrated booklet and perceptive essay by Michael Hill. --Jerry McCulley

Hello Hurricane

Hello Hurricane Overview

Switchfoot is an alternative rock band from San Diego, CA. They are known for their energetic live shows, the three guitarists in the line-up often operate simultaneously, building on the pop sensibilities of Foreman's songwriting, rounded out by Fontamillas's work on the synthesizer, bringing his industrial roots to the sound, the band works up 'the Switchfoot sound'- a melodic crunch of densely layered sound featuring some electronic experimentation, and often driven by hard-charging guitar riffs, while throwing in a few softer ballads as well.

Customer Reviews

As a big fan of Switchfoot, I had high expectations Hello, when the hurricane was published '. Almost 3 months later, I can safely say that not to disappoint the album. In fact, it reveals Switchfoot, who can master all kinds of styles, from heartbreaking ballads, as always, and still insist on pumping songs like Bullet Soul and the measurement of me, everything in between. Listen still almost 3 months after its publication (with a lot of heavy), this disc has not yet got old. In fact, the songsI'm not mad at first as Enough To Let Me Go really grown on me. Other songs just seemed to keep better as the epic poem, free ride. I still can not even choose a favorite song on this album, all of high quality.

Even if you're not a Switchfoot fan or not listening to them after the disappointment pretty, or you're just curious and looking for new music this album is a must for your music collection to have. This is a completely new sound for a pre --amazing band, and not disappoint you.

Live at Luther College

Live at Luther College Overview

Unplugged and set apart from his bandmates, Dave Matthews is transformed from a fusion rocker to something of a fusion folkie. Indeed, this two-disc, two-man concert recording (cut in Iowa in the winter of 1996 and shelved for nearly three years) posits the South African-born bandleader less as a Blues Traveler fellow traveler than a dexterous, jazz-inflected minstrel in the tradition of Tim and Jeff Buckley, Terry Callier, and Ellen McIlwaine. As with those considerably less-successful performers, multiplatinum Matthews is enticed to soar ever higher by his considerable vocal prowess. Ultimately, Matthews takes his tunes in dizzying directions because he can! All those exhibitions of elasticity have earned Matthews disdain in less-is-more circles. Here, however, more than ably complemented by frequent DMB guest and fellow Charlottesville, Virginia, denizen Tim Reynolds, Matthews virtually bursts through 23 tunes that leave his audience wanting more. They needn't worry: even his worst critics wouldn't accuse Matthews of being stingy when it comes to music. --Steven Stolder

Customer Reviews

DMB is known to see a jam band and live DMB understand their mass appeal. Live at Luther College is just Dave and Tim Reynolds, is an honorary member of the band. The congestion will be cut and the music is stripped down to its essence. This is an old CD so that songs from what are now the pieces are classic DMB. Last DMB Live CD focus on the latest music so that only one possibility, the classics in a way that you feel probably will never play that way.

The Ballad of John Henry

The Ballad of John Henry Overview

2009 release, the seventh studio album from renowned American Blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa. Produced by Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, The Black Crowes) the album sees Bonamassa deliver another collection of rocking Blues workouts. Featuring six original tracks penned by Bonamassa himself, he also takes on six covers, including Tom Waits' 'Jockey Full Of Bourbon', Sam Brown's 'Stop' and the Newley/Bricusse penned classic 'Feelin' Good'.

Customer Reviews

Joe is a brilliant album from voice, guitar and working all the way through. As a life-long music lover and guitarist, some of the best I have heard of Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray, Jimmy and Hendix a long list of others. I think it is fair to say that Joe Bonamassa on the list of the guitar is the size. Ablum this is worth buying for any rock / blues fans Bonamssa. I think it's not quite right, this album compared to the other Joe, as I think each album as a painting gives us a visionthe artist's life. Joe Bonamassa is the great blues guitar playing of his generation. Consultation with the Les Paul has played guitar and shouted something that I have not heard from Jimmy Page. I'll see to make Joe play live. Buy the album and enjoy.
