No Name Face

No Name Face Overview

Includes two bonus tracks, both not on the U.S. version: 'What's Wrong With That' and 'Fool'.

No Name Face Specifications

No Name Face is an auspicious debut from a band seemingly made to rule the airwaves. The insinuating melodies that mark Lifehouse's radio-friendly sound are not unlike those of matchbox twenty or Live in their softer moments. From the first single, "Hanging by a Moment," to the emotive and uplifting "Quasimodo" and the wonderful "Trying" (think Crowded House at their lilting best), Lifehouse are self-possessed and focused. Young singer-songwriter Jason Wade (the son of two ministers) imbues Lifehouse's vibe with a spiritual quality that's never heavy-handed, delivering the goods with the authority of an experienced troubadour. No Name Face may be a first offering from a young band, but it looks to signal the beginning of an estimable career. --Katherine Turman

Customer Reviews

I must confess one thing: House when life first appeared in 2001 with "Hanging By A Moment ', I thought it was just another Creed song. Then I stopped playing the band ... and I realized that this new group all unlike his first song was. A mix of rock, soul-searching lyrics, and the harsh voice of Jason Wade, Lifehouse's debut album "No Name Face" is still high for almost a decade.

If you are looking for a full record of hymns, I tell you now, to skip it. DuringThe length can cause the sensation (and, in 2001, there was someone in America who did not know that song?) Is the residue of him more along the lines of Daughtry meets Keane. "Sick Cycle Carousel" is a great rock song like "Only One". 'Cling and noise "and" Breathing "is a bit' more pop, although not unique enough to be confused with most of them are tunes from the radio. And: "Simon" and "Everything" are still among the under-rated songs ever recorded - with soaring choruses research,It is immediately drawn into its magic.

But what makes it unique is its amazing song Lifehouse. With lines like "you have lost and to hide in the search for something else behind it" (to find 'Simon'), every song is full of meaning. It 's the feeling of actual combat, the real emotions - Real Life - in these songs. The unusual voice singer Jason Wade (which is immediately recognizable, a little 'scratchy, a bit' raw) only adds to the feeling.

It 'been almost ten years sinceThis was rejected. And while it is in my CD player every time in the past, I'm still scope for "No Name Face" when I listen to rock music. And 'timeless, Great Stuff.

Diver Down

Diver Down Overview

Japanese pressing. Reissue of 1982 original release has been remastered and comes in a standard jewel case. Warner. 2005.

Customer Reviews

VH's Diver Down I remember back in 82 when it first came out. For some reason I associate with summer, because I played my friend guess summer. Or do you love, love or hate, and they are a lot of people who hate love / to Diver Down. Me personally, I like it. Sure, it covers almost half, but they are good covers. Where are the good times Gone, Dancing in the Streets, and the best Pretty Woman. Yes, these cover songs, but took VHShe ran with them and made them their own for the album. Van Li Halenized so to speak. And the game is impressive Diver Down. His is a really good feel to it, a little 'softer, less cruel or aggressive then the previous albums before. There is no fair warning, I tell you, but what is? I think it was a breath of fresh air when it came out. You may hate to talk bad about it, say its not this or that, that's your opinion and you have the right, but not his best album and its VHworse, is what you feel good, party, good time, the album of light from a big time hard rock classic. Where are all the good times over, can you tell me?

Best of

Best of Overview

Randy Newman, The Best of Randy Newman:

The songwriting genius' multi-label highlights on one CD! The first of its kind, this unique collection gathers 21 tracks released between 1968 and 1999, including Newman's greatest hits, album cuts, and soundtrack classics.

Customer Reviews

Randy Newman is a songwriter and satirist. If you've never heard of him, which is not surprising. I have about 10 of his old vinyl albums, but had not received Randy maybe 10 or 15 years.

He won an Oscar for "You've Got a Friend in Me." He has uncles, who wrote many films of great music. His uncles were famous, but Randy was a bit 'unknown.

He writes songs that are very controversial. His best known "big" success was probably "ShortPeople. "

This album is a sampler Randy Newman. If you're a rock and roll fan, you probably recognize, "Mom told me not to come" or the great success by Joey Cocker, "You Can leave your hat on." Randy wrote both.

The song "Political Science" is a killer and "rednecks" is great, but not good in my current environment. Randy is a social commentator and as a composer. "Sail Away" and "Little Criminals" are both great.

You need to listenin the words of the songs of Randy. He is a thinker ... He is not only for us to fat cats rhyme and tried to say something. And he does and makes it very skillfully. There is much to listen and learn a lot from listening to Randy Newman.

My guess is that it is just love Randy Newman, and now I hate him. It is not his voice or his piano prevail. He is a stylist. He is unique. Randy listen I remember some other artists. And Randy can be Randy. It 'difficult to remain neutral with Randy. Try this CD. If you like, you like her others. Hear Randy's like going to a lecture at several universities radical ... Randy is funny if not ... and he plays piano and sings. Great speech!

The Blueprint 3 [Explicit]

The Blueprint 3 [Explicit] Feature

  • Jay-z - The Blueprint 3

The Blueprint 3 [Explicit] Overview

EXPLICIT VERSION. 2009 album from the international Hip Hop superstar and multi-media mogul. The follow up to Jay-Z's instant classic Blueprint (2001) and the critically acclaimed Blueprint II (2002); Blueprint III is the final installment in the series. The album's first single "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)" has exploded since its June release, hitting the Top 5 on the overall chart. Performed live on the BET Awards on June 28th, the song's video premiered immediately following the show to great acclaim. Second single "Run This Town" with Rihanna and Kanye West will premiere at radio on July 24th.

Customer Reviews

"It 's all about progression." These are some of the more concise in this misunderstood masterpiece "to the next." Jay-Z is quite on the level, it should be. Some critics have said that Hov is developed both as man and artist. Absolutely. From its humble beginnings in the Marcy projects (I'll be representing the Chambers-Mitchell Bronx!) For gold Rolex. For platinum and Rolex. The man is on this album, with an indication of progression. Not onlyBut hip-hop is a project for its survival. If hip-hop is to survive in a meaningful way, it was progress. If you use the old model, will continue its descent into nothingness.

Some controls have said the new Hov album is not quite true. I laugh at them. Like a true artist, Jay Z is a unique position to make real art. It so happens that his medium is hip-hop. Moreover, the man has more street credof all people criticize him for not having faith enough (I urge everyone to come among you with a real place, and then the Bed Stuy 70s, 80s and 90s than the Bronx the same period, that is.) the point is Jay Z must provide credentials for real hip-hop. He does not need the consent or approval by anyone to make real Hip-Hop. Some of you have said that the new Raekwon album "Cuban Linx, the rule is true hip-hop by the courts. Although I love the boss and Wu,I must say that the album Jay-Z is higher.

In short, Jay-Z is doing to the future of art. When artists create, much of what is created, misunderstood and panned. Would then, fans of hip-hop and even if they behind Jay Z and appreciated his vision, instead of clinging to outdated ideas of what should be hip-hop.

Firecracker

Firecracker Overview

When Winnipeg's Wailin' Jennys recorded their debut disc, 40 Days, back in 2004, their enthusiastic fan base--cultivated in part by significant airplay from CBC Radio One--provided the young group with a fast track to fame. Their fans' praise came first, critical acclaim arrived shortly thereafter, and a 2005 Juno for Best Roots & Traditional album soon followed. Surprisingly, as opportunities arose, founding member Cara Luft left the band, expediently replaced by Annabelle Chvostek. Thankfully, the Jennys' sound is none the worse for wear, even stronger in the respect that Chvostek's deft fiddle and mandolin playing helps to further uplift their melodies, while her warm alto adds a nice touch to the three part harmonies.

On this sophomore release, founding members Nicky Mehta and Ruth Moody continue in the tradition of writing songs independently, with each songwriter taking the lead on her own tracks. Moody seems to have the strongest songwriting sense: Listening to "Things That You Know" and "This Heart Of Mine" makes one yearn to hear the Dixie Chicks cover these tracks with the vocal strength and three-part power that the Wailin' girls do not have… yet. With a country edge and a Celtic lilt, Firecracker is an enjoyable listen, but those looking for edgy, O Brother-style country and alt-folk might find a better fit seeking out Gillian Welch or the Be Good Tanyas. Roots fans looking to dip their toes into easy listening-style acoustic music, however, will find this to be a fine fit. --Denise Sheppard

Customer Reviews

My first problem quantified in my love for this album is the classification: I just can not call it folk, country, bluegrass, roots rock, or any other popular genre, so I have a name. Maybe we can call "Jenny Music". By the close vocal harmony, mild syncopated rhythms, and especially (but not exclusively) acoustic instruments refer to various genres sold without blocking one of them.

But this rejection, still tells us why many listeners enjoy left this group.Such purists may scratch their heads, but we like to listen to the music itself, to say how the art of music and lyrics the truth about our ears intact. I can not help but view the LP my father played when I grew up. After a childhood friend of Bill Monroe, the singing Lennon Sisters, Chet Atkins and Dolly Parton, this sound for me at home.

Lyrically the album focuses on alienation and loss. "Maybe the right time was not right." "I'm leavin 'this prairie city." "Living and Dying andgone. "In times like ours, Where rapid march of society, many of us feel like nomads in our homes, these issues can Affect is where we live. And the lyrics have a subtle poetry hear how many of us, the regular pop radio trade.

At a time when it may be much milder call music conglomerate disappointing Studios that inspire wailin 'Jennys hope that someone still cares about the songs themselves, They where their names. Showy, but not fear, cantabilebut not copied, embody the Jennys, what makes true music. Even after all this time, I still have a load of these songs.

Away We Go

Away We Go Overview

Alexi Murdoch's intimate, wintry songwriting dominates this soundtrack, which takes the bulk of its tracks from his breakthrough album, TIME WITHOUT CONSEQUENCE. Bob Dylan, George Harrison, the Stranglers, and the Velvet Underground are all awarded one song each, but the emphasis rarely strays from Murdoch's fingerpicked guitar and solemn vocals, resulting in a consistent vibe that almost functions like a movie score. While the songwriter also contributes three unreleased songs to the project, AWAY WE GO might be too reminiscent of his existing albums to appeal anew to most Murdoch fans. Instead, this album caters to those who enjoyed the movie, as it offers up the same brand of wistful contemplation.

Customer Reviews

This is one of the few albums in my collection I can listen to the end. Alexi Murdoch has a soothing, beautiful voice. Other artists have taken every couple of songs, a good mix for the listener.
If you are thinking of buying this CD, go for it! Try it.

Embryonic

Embryonic Overview

After lauded indie albums, The Flaming Lips debuted on Warner Bros. with 1991's Hit To Death In The Future Head. Transmissions From The Satellite Heart and Clouds Taste Metallic followed. 1999's TheSoft Bulletin topped numerous year-end best-of listsand helped rank the band among the most influential inthe world. 2002's Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots ranked #4 in Spin and #11 in NME on their end-of-yearlists, and won a Grammy. Most recently, the band's full length feature film and score album Christmas On Mars received critical acclaim at screenings across the country in 2008.

Customer Reviews

"Embryonic" can hardly still the best album by The Flaming Lips --- a wonderful wild crazy musical journey through 70 minutes of action and acid-rock landscapes. Then again, with song titles like "Aquarius Sabotage", "syringes Gemini", "Worm Mountain" and "Self-Esteem Virgo Broadcast" what we usually expect of this band unique and innovative? This group of Oklahoma Wayne Coyne brought me again and again with its affectionate Off-Kilter wonder brand of rock music, and"Embryo", if not for the faint of heart, is a wonderful result. Crank It Up, and bon voyage!

Now Is the Time

Now Is the Time Overview

More than three decades after his earliest recordings, keyboardist and composer Jeff Lorber has come full circle. His new recording, Now Is The Time, delves back into his early catalog and reinvents some of the most compelling compositions from the Jeff Lorber Fusion heyday. As a result, the artist once again makes a bold statement in the evolution of jazz.

"We all had a vision of what we wanted this record to be," says Lorber, who points to a recent European tour with many of these same musicians - and the positive response that resulted from it - as the primary catalyst for the album. "We wanted a return to the sound of the Jeff Lorber Fusion, but informed by everything I've learned since then. All of a sudden, people seem to be interested in hearing that again. They're ready to hear musicians who can really play, really stretch the envelope with their technique, with their songwriting, and with harmonic structure."

In some ways, Now Is The Time is a culmination of all that has come before - and a nod to the raw energy and enthusiasm that fueled the music of the early days. The set opens with a reinterpretation of Lorber's "Rain Dance," a song that has been sampled by Lil' Kim and other hip-hop artists since the original recording on the Water Sign album in 1979. The combination of vocals by Irene B and trumpet by Randy Brecker - with additional brass by the Blood Sweat & Tears Horns - provides a fresh look at an early Jeff Lorber Fusion classic.

This new incarnation of the Jeff Lorber Fusion includes luminaries like bassist Jimmy Haslip (who co-produced with Lorber and Bobby Colomby), saxophonist Eric Marienthal, trumpeter Randy Brecker, guitarist Paul Jackson Jr., and drummers Vinnie Colaiuta and Dave Weckl.

Calling this set of refashioned classics Now Is The Time was no accident, says Lorber. The album represents a transition in the artist's creative perspective - one that might well be a reflection of the changes in the audience's perceptions as well. "This record is a clear statement," he says. "It represents a real musical shift toward something a little jazzier, and a little more exciting. The title has a very positive thrust to it, and it evokes a certain sense of being serious and taking charge."

Customer Reviews

nice music as a whole. I think he needs more jazz and R & B vocalist. Irene b has a nice sound, but I would like singers like Karyn White, Patti Austin, or maybe listen to the album by Sade. Jeff sounds better live anyway. I suggest a concert with Jeff Lorber, Norman Brown, a great bass player and all the saxophonist.

Red Velvet Car

Red Velvet Car Overview

Ann Wilson and her sister Nancy first showed the world that women can rock when their band Heart stormed the charts in the 70s with songs like Crazy On You, Magic Man, and Barracuda, and many more. They continued topping the charts through the 80s and into the 90s with huge hits like These Dreams, Alone, What About Love, If Looks Could Kill, Never, and a string of other hits that showcased the sisters enormous talents. Along the way, Heart sold more than 30 million records, had 21 Top 40 hits, sold out arenas worldwide, and had a profound influence on rock music.

Red Velvet Car -- the most personal and powerful work yet from Ann and Nancy Wilson, and their first album in 6 years -- takes generations of Heart fans on what truly feels like the musical ride of a lifetime. Powerfully produced by Ben Mink, Red Velvet Car is a thoroughly electrifying song cycle of largely acoustic-based sound and a stunning album with a true and renewed sense of purpose. Ann and Nancy committed themselves to writing and recording an album that was as authentic as possible, culling from their own personal experiences and some universal themes. The result on Red Velvet Car is an album of breathtaking intimacy and honesty.

Ark

Ark Overview

2010 release, the second solo album from Brendan Perry, formerly one-half of Dead Can Dance. Recorded in his own studio in Ireland, Ark is truly a solo album, Brendan playing every instrument, writing all the lyrics and being the sole creative force across the eight tracks. All of the instrumentation on Ark is derived from samples and synthesizers and, in its creators own words, is predicated on a theory of creating 'a neutral electronic soundscape which would in turn mirror a world that is becoming increasingly more dependent upon machines to perform tasks for us'. Cooking Vinyl.

Customer Reviews

Brendan Perry is a man very much in mind. For those familiar with the epic music of Dead Can Dance, which surely will not be disappointed in the tapestry of richly layered soundscapes that Perry did this brilliantly ambitious second solo trip planned. And the fact that he plays all the instruments makes it even more rewarding. But honestly, it's not just the music, the stage is on this album, but deeply personal comment on Perry's life,The war, despair and destruction of Mother Earth - a gift to humanity has tarnished his selfish end. Yes, we made our beds are burning, and now we sleep in them.

Perry did not mince words when referring to the lies of peace and the voracious man-machine, senseless war, the causes empty life lost, cold-blooded reptiles political, materialism, global destruction and the death of innocence. Perry to say basically what most of us think perhaps - thatthe flame is blown away there in our hands. But there is something much deeper going on here. A little 'more personal - as if we own inner demons, as witness Perry alone assumes the sins of the world in a recent friendly gesture.

As "Leeloo" in Luc Besson's cult science fiction classic, "The Fifth Element, high sensitivity Perry comes to running the world on this album, he left us crying in a corner and see how ourdestruction in front of us like to play badly in the theater hall of the human race. Because, like Perry, we feel invisible and deaf - trapped in their own suburbs of hell, as we foolishly and blindly live our lives indirectly through our TVs and on the Internet. Because, like stars, our souls are dead and we do not even know. So we all depend on the illusion and a lie is to live, as the curtain comes down on us.

If it comes to finding a glimmer of hope in Perrysobering vision is rooted in love, in love, live life right, and the resilience of Mother Nature. Even if we end up drowning in our greed, hatred and ignorance, the seed of new life from the earth obscures the sun rises to kiss. Very recommended.

In December 08/January 09, Neil did it again, only this time bigger and better! The cast list this time includes Neil, Sharon and Liam Finn, Bic Runga, KT Tunstall, Johnny Marr, Jeff Tweedy and Glenn Kotche (of Wilco), Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway (of Radiohead), Lisa Germano, Don McGlashan and others.

Customer Reviews

With so much star talent of writing, playing and production of this CD, one would expect nothing less in this second go-around with Neil Finn and his band of musicians?

These benefits Oxfam and runs well on the plate with an interesting mix of music. I look forward to round three. I do not want me to write a single title, I think that for her to leave. Just know that these guys continue to beat me with talent, music and passion. Meannever to go to the end and continue.

Remember The Heartbreak Crowded House called it quits, then you still feel? The last "Finn Family" shows the first-class music class and invite their friends to the party to enter. The musicians of the world should take note.

E 'became a project of passion for these people a way to take three weeks or so engaged in their daily lives, equipment and materials to trudge to New Zealand and hang out and just make music. Yesdo for a living ... Takes still need and desire ... and a great leader. We still have players who care enough. This will be repeated listening, you stop growing. Around the fifth lap, begins to click.

It 's rare when the heart and soul, combining as Neil, his family and friends (now extended family) have really struck a beautiful chord.

These are the kind of people who would be proud to call friends. This is music that you are proud to call your own, you can sharewith the world.
