The Blue Room

The Blue Room Overview

Celebrated and Award-winning jazz singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Madeleine Peyroux gears up to release her inspired new album, THE BLUE ROOM, March 5, 2013 on Decca. The album is a return to what she is known best for reinterpreting songs with an emotion and depth that cant help but touch the soul.

THE BLUE ROOM features Madeleine reinterpreting songs from Ray Charles seminal album MODERN SOUNDS IN COUNTRY & WESTERN MUSIC, as well as others from legendary artists such as Randy Newman and Leonard Cohen, whose legacies are herein enveloped into a similar melting pot of the variety of American popular song.

Released in the summer of 1962, MODERN SOUNDS was a daring album for Charles as it broke the mold of what was expected from him, and in turn, truly represented artistic freedom something that clearly inspires Peyrouxs album THE BLUE ROOM.

Conceived and produced by the legendary GRAMMY-Award winner Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Herbie Hancock), he says, Rays cultural landmark of an album has always been a part of me. I have loved this album ever since I can remember and I knew that Madeleine would be the perfect voice to bring it to the forefront again.

Reexamining this album is an ideal project for the multi-talented Madeleine Peyroux, because she comes from that same rare place as Ray Charles the junction of jazz, country and blues. The Brooklyn and Paris-bred artist, with a New Orleans pedigree, Peyrouxs soulfully piercing voice and eclectic musical mix makes for magnificent story-telling. And that is exactly what each of the songs on THE BLUE ROOM does tell a story but from her own perspective. Infusing her own vision and reinterpretation of the songs with modern sensibility, Peyroux brings elements of jazz, country and blues into each song, while evoking a depth of emotion and sound of such legends as Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline, Edith Piaf, and Bob Dylan.

Featuring sparse arrangements, each of the 11 tracks on the album sets a tone and mood that respects where the originals came from, but offers a modern reinterpretation of each song. Truly an inspired record, THE BLUE ROOM features five other tracks that Madeleine felt could accompany Charles seminal album.

Eagles : The Very Best Of (2CD)

Eagles : The Very Best Of (2CD) Feature

  • Condition: Used - Very Good

Eagles : The Very Best Of (2CD) Overview

33 career-spanning hits and album favorites on 2 CDs. Includes Take It Easy; Witchy Woman; Peaceful Easy Feeling; Desperado; Already Gone; James Dean; The Best of My Love; Lyin' Eyes; One of These Nights; Take It to the Limit; Hotel California; Life in the Fast Lane , and more. Unbeatable!

Eagles : The Very Best Of (2CD) Specifications

This packed double-disc is the slim option for fans who find the Eagles' vaunted greatest hits sets too little and the boxed set too hefty. Hit singles large and medium are here, often ("One of These Nights," "Hotel California") still sounding definitive and even tough. Large helpings of favorite album cuts are also included, along with a taster from a promised 2004 Eagles studio reunion. Unfortunately, "Hole in the World," Don Henley's response to September 11, feels just as empty and entitled as "Get Over It," the band's previous state-of-the-union message (from which the newer song represents a philosophical 180-degree turn). But for those seeking an overview of this Southern California juggernaut's successes, as well as telling comments from band members--mostly Henley and Frey--in a well-designed booklet, Very Best will more than do. --Rickey Wright

Push the Sky Away

Push the Sky Away Overview

Hardback book bound in linen with 32 stitched-in pages, containing beautifully reproduced hand typed lyrics & band imagery. Includes album CD plus DVD with specially created visuals by artists Iain Forysth & Jane Pollard. At the heart of Push the Sky Away is a naturalism and warmth that makes it the most subtly beautiful of all the Bad Seeds albums. The contemporary settings of myths, and the cultural references that have time-stamped Nick's songs of the twenty-first century mist lightly through details drawn from the life he observed around his seaside home, through the tall windows on the album's mysterious and ambiguous cover. The songs on this album took form in a modest notebook with shellac covers over the course of almost a year. The notebook is a treasured analogue artifact but the internet is equally important to Nick: Googling curiosities, being entranced by exotic Wikipedia entries "whether they're true or not". These songs convey how on the internet profoundly significant events, momentary fads and mystically-tinged absurdities sit side-by-side and question how we might recognise and assign weight to what's genuinely important. The album has a clarity and sweet strangeness that's built upon the refusal to accept limitations, whether they be the traditional uses and sounds of musical instruments, lyric styles, or diminished spiritual horizons. It's not always apparent what instruments the band is playing: they may be traditional musical instruments but other sounds are clearly generated by objects unrelated to musical instruments. What's being created is a collective musical language that's rich and complex. "Well, if I were to use that threadbare metaphor of albums being like children, then Push The Sky Away is the ghost-baby in the incubator and Warren's loops are its tiny, trembling heart-beat." - Nick Cave.

Mythology

Mythology Overview

Mythology

"Voices call from the old days, Voices tell from the past, Ancient laws and ancient old ways to recast." (Voices opening number from Mythology)

Mythology is the latest show from Celtic Thunder and the show's 9th special for Public Television. Filmed on location at the Helix Theater in Dublin (where they filmed their debut show in 2007), it's fitting that Celtic Thunder have chosen to return to their roots in order to film this musical odyssey back to the heart of the Celt. The opening number for Mythology is an original piece called Voices written expressly as an opener for the new show. Voices, quoted above, is collaboration between Celtic Thunder Musical Director David Munro and world-renowned composer Brendan Graham, who also composed the international hit "You Raise Me Up."

The core theme of Mythology is found in the opening number "Voices call from the old days, Voices tell from the past, Ancient laws and ancient old ways to recast." It's the story of the Celts in Ireland, their legends, their history and their stories. It's the lifeblood of modern day Ireland and it's influences from our Celtic past, which are still carried in each one of us as part of who we are and where we come from.

The set of Mythology is big; it's dramatic and imposing. The new and the old combine. Modern catalyst images are projected onto ancient standing stones, a giant Celtic cross takes center stage and the tempo of the music is strongly echoed in the theatrical and moody lighting. Mythology is by far Celtic Thunder's most impressive production to date, bar none.

The road to Mythology began in 2007 when Sharon Browne, the Celtic Thunder's creator and producer, set out to produce a show with real Celts performing an eclectic mix of songs ranging from the traditional to international hits and some original pieces along the way. That show and each subsequent Celtic Thunder show have raised the bar for Irish music and theatrical productions worldwide. Mythology has raised that bar yet again, even by Celtic Thunder standards. It is without down their most extravagant and spectacular show ever and by far the biggest undertaking of producer Sharon Browne's and Musical Director David Munro's careers to date.

Mythology comprises of six diverse performers who are each a powerhouse in both their solo and ensemble songs, backed of course by the dynamic Celtic Thunder Band. And while Celtic Thunder shows are known for the use of dramatic combinations of lighting, choreography and set design, Peter Barnes, the Set & Lighting Director for Mythology has upped the ante and has created a stage that surpasses anything Celtic Thunder has done heretofore.

Celtic Thunder have now toured the US and Canada, coast to coast, six times, performing at over 500 shows and in doing so have sold well in excess of half-a-million concert tickets.

Girl Who Got Away (Deluxe Edition)

Girl Who Got Away (Deluxe Edition) Overview

Dido, one of the world's best-selling female recording artists of all time with over 29 million albums sold, returns with her strongest album yet entitled GIRL WHO GOT AWAY

Working once again with her brother Rollo Armstrong, who produced the majority of the album, Dido collaborated with a "who's who" of hit makers including Brian Eno, Jeff Bhasker, Rick Nowels and Greg Kurstin to create an album of finely, self-penned songs and soul-baring pop with electro, folk, hip hop, ambient and dance infusions.

The album GIRL WHO GOT AWAY is a captivating collection of well-crafted songs and stunning production: from the euphoric "Go Dreaming," to the barbed wit of End of Night, the folky "Sitting On The Roof Of The World" to the dance-y-yet-dark "Blackbir" to the album's title track which Dido shares: "It's one of my favorite songs on the record," she says. "...but I guess it also sums up the last few years for me. Taking a step back from it all and going off to have the whole happy adventure of starting a family and making an album that I really am so proud of. And now I just can't wait for people to hear it."

Two Lanes Of Freedom [Accelerated Deluxe Edition]

Two Lanes Of Freedom [Accelerated Deluxe Edition] Overview

A lot of artists can tell you how they feel, says Tim McGraw, but when somebody can tell you how you feel, and you didn t know it or couldn t put it into words, that s the goal. What you want to do as an artist is let someone discover how they feel from your music, in a really visceral way, from the inside out. For twenty years, McGraw has been providing that kind of powerful connection with his audience. With Two Lanes of Freedom, his new album and first release for Big Machine Records the singer is covering his broadest emotional range yet, with a set of songs that looks forward and back, gets deep and gets loose, and reveals that even the biggest stars can continue to grow with consistency and maturity.
I feel like I ve progressed in my work, and I ve gotten better, says McGraw. This album was a way to reach a little further back, to all that I d done throughout my career, and bring both sides together it s a combination of that discovery, along with some rediscovery.
When you listen to this record, there s a lot of that reflection that drives everything forward. It s almost like two magnets, the future and the past, and when they get close to each other, it pushes them away. On Two Lanes of Freedom, the sense of nostalgia comes through on such classic-sounding tracks as Annie, I Owe You a Dance and the hard-driving single One of Those Nights. The reverie of those songs, though, is countered by the humor and joy of Southern Girl or the feel-good hangover of Mexicoma. McGraw maintains that it was the album s title track that really established the tone for the entire project. When we cut Two Lanes of Freedom, there was such a freshness to it, he says. The track has this sort of Gaelic drive to it, with a synthesized didgeridoo and hurdy-gurdy.
If the album addresses a set of classic themes in country music, part of the reason may be that it was recorded in a very traditional fashion. We were in the studio for two weeks straight, from ten in the morning until eleven or twelve at night, says McGraw. It was like the old days of making a record, like a bunch of guys going in a submarine and making music. But the sound that resulted, with hints of everything from rock to hip-hop to bluegrass, is hardly limited to the conventional country playbook. I don t ever want to paint anybody into a box when we re in the studio, says the singer. We want these guys to come in and bring everything they have to the table.
The strength and confidence in the musical settings helped McGraw reach some especially emotional depth in his performances on such songs as Number 37405, the lament of a singer-turned-convict. Most powerful of all might be Book of John, a wistful account of a family going through the journal left behind by its late patriarch. The Highway Don t Care, a breezy yet complex track that features two of country music s biggest superstars, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban. When I heard the song, I knew I wanted Taylor to sing on it, says McGraw. And I ve been looking for years for something to have Keith play on, because I think he s one of the best artists we have out there.
These songs are written and constructed in a way that people can impose their own memories and put themselves in your place, like going to a great movie and making yourself the hero, he says. Art has to be cathartic; that s why people enjoy it. It makes you think or reflect, it purges you emotionally. That s what propels you as an artist, and it s what makes a listener stay engaged.

Passione [Deluxe Edition]

Passione [Deluxe Edition] Overview

Filled with romance and beauty, "Passione" is a lush collection of Mediterranean love songs featuring duets with global pop stars Jennifer Lopez, Nelly Furtado, and the late Edith Piaf. The album reunites Bocelli with 16-time Grammy Award-winning producer David Foster, who produced Bocelli's 2006 release "Amore," which sold more than 4.2 million copies.

"Passione" is in essence the second volume of "Amore," with a "fil rouge" which ideally connects the albums. As with "Amore," which featured timeless masterworks, "Passione" includes several beloved classics such as "Love Me Tender," "Girl From Ipanema," and "Sarà Settembre," (better known to English-speaking audiences as Neil Diamond's "September Morn"). Jennifer Lopez is featured on the soft and sensual track "Quizás Quizás Quizás" and Nelly Furtado joins Bocelli on "Corcovado." The album also features a duet with the late French chanteuse Edith Piaf on the song "La Vie En Rose."

On the album, Bocelli sings in six languages (Italian, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Neapolitan) with his unmistakable voice, as Foster accompanies him on piano, along with Peruvian guitarist Ramon Stagnaro. The sensual sound is rounded out by Cuban, Brazilian, and Portuguese rhythms and a 63-piece orchestra recorded in London.

"Andrea continues to be my favorite singer of all time," Foster declares. "I pride myself on working with great voices, but he transcends that. He's a singer for all people, from the common man to the Pope."

Bocelli is an iconic figure in music with a myriad of breathtaking career achievements to his name. The Italian tenor is the most successful classical solo artist ever and one of the best-selling artists in music history, period, with more than 80 million albums sold worldwide. He is also credited with enabling the core classical repertoire to cross over and find a home atop the international pop charts, creating a new genre of music along the way. He has performed for four U.S. presidents, two popes, and the British royal family, as well as at ceremonies for the Olympic Games and the World Cup. He has been praised by such luminaries as Luciano Pavarotti, Franco Corelli (his beloved teacher and guide), Zubin Mehta, José Carreras, Lorin Maazel, Renée Fleming, and Celine Dion.

Set You Free

Set You Free Overview

Gary Allan's new album Set You Free is a perfectly named, well-conceived album that embodies his own evolution toward personal, creative freedom. The album, sequenced with a storyline in which a man breaks the restraints of a failed relationship and conquers the loneliness of its aftermath, is the result of Allan's own journey as a man and as an artist.

He took a number of new steps during the recording process by mixing up the production team, playing lead guitar on a number of tracks, writing more of his own material and using a handful of new co-writers. As a result, he came up with the most optimistic album of his career, one that acknowledges the hurdles of the past and the ways in which they ve helped to shape his current sense of renewal.

Gary Allan has sold over 6 million albums and has more than ten Top 10 singles to his credit. Allan s latest release, Set You Free, features Gary as a co-producer with longtime collaborator Mark Wright and Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Little Big Town). Includes the hit single Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain).
