The Best of the Box Tops: Soul Deep

The Best of the Box Tops: Soul Deep Overview

Before settling for enduring cult fame with Big Star, Alex Chilton enjoyed ephemeral pop stardom as a singer with Memphis group the Box Tops. Their first hit, "The Letter", was a tantalisingly short and perfect pop song-from its drum-tapped intro to its sound effects-drenched fadeout. In an effort to sustain momentum after this 1967 chart topper, the rest of the band was kept out of the studio while the American Sound studio mafia backed the gravel-voiced teenage Chilton under the supervision of producer Dan Penn. The group had a total of ten Top 100 hits, all included here. The finest of these, "Cry Like a Baby", is an impeccable slice of blue-eyed soul penned by Penn and Spooner Oldham. The pair was less successful with its other compositions, leaving it to Wayne Carson Thompson to conjure up "The Letter", "Neon Rainbow", and the stirring "Soul Deep". Alongside the hits, SOUL DEEP includes seven B-sides-all but one of which also appeared onthe group's quartet of original albums-and an album-only cover of the Clifford Curry hit "She Shot a Hole in My Soul".

As author of Jefferson Airplane "Take Me To circus" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various music supplies and recordings of the '60s and '70s.

The Best of the Box Tops: Soul Deep, published in October 1996 by Arista is the perfect introduction to early music by Alex Chilton.

If you're hesitant about buying the CD, because at first glance there are few recognizable tunes, your fear isdegrade rapidly.

make the opening device "representation" The letter is entirely logical if it was the only song on the compilation. It 's a timeless song that has never been the play-list of oldies and classic rock radio. Chilton tone makes the text more deeply. He made an entry for the Time Capsule. "Dominate cry like a baby" Oldies Other favorites are further evidence of Chilton's voice is both the Rock and SoulCategories. "Soul Deep" is always an effect even after hundreds of plays to do. It did not get two minutes and thirty seconds, but timeless. Chilton's voice delivers the goods on the Dylan cover "I Shall Be Released." This is a great selection and integration is required. The last song "You Keep Me On is tightening" the most underrated song found on the library. It has a quality feel that the initial capital, if you heard the song manyEvil. The singing and instrumentation end of the CD, as it began, with a little soul and a lot of fun.

Enjoy the music and good,

Wingspan (Hits & History)

Wingspan (Hits & History) Feature

  • ISBN13: 0724353294625
  • Condition: NEW
  • Notes: Brand New from Publisher. No Remainder Mark.

Wingspan (Hits & History) Overview

While his fellow ex-bandmates busied themselves with various high-profile projects (John Lennon with Imagine and a series of high-profile media events; George Harrison with All Things Must Pass and The Concert for Bangla Desh), Paul McCartney climbed into a van with his wife and a few journeyman players and gigged at university student unions for what amounted to spare change. Of course, by 1976 they were one of the biggest draws in rock, having the last laugh--if not necessarily the final word. Gathering the cream of their recorded output on a generous double-disc sampler-cum-TV-special-soundtrack seemed a promising effort at historical revisionism, but Wingspan itself is a distinct misnomer: fully 17 of the 40 tracks here hail from various pre- and post-Wings McCartney solo albums. Completely overlooked are unheralded B-sides such as "Oh Woman, Oh Why," "Little Woman Love," "Country Dreamer," "The Mess," "Walking in the Park with Eloise," "Sally G," and "Girl's School"--some of McCartney the bandleader and solo artist's scrappiest and most interesting work. All the expected hits are here and more, ranging from spunky rockers and hook-rich bubblegum to syrup-drenched ballads. What's lacking is a fresh and less myopic perspective. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews

Let me first state I just love Paul McCartney. However, this collection too much for me. I heard a CD of this series much more common than disc two. "Band On The Run," "Jet," "Live and Let Die" and "Venus and Mars / Rock Show" Wings are the best if you ask me. Some say I miss the bigger picture, and maybe I am, but I am so happy with the now out-of-print "Wings Greatest" CD / LP.

Disc two of this CD with "History". I personallyCare less about the songs of my great successes. Again, maybe I do not miss the display of tracks less than a fair chance. But I'm honest with Wings on a single CD collection of content.

Apart from the songs I mentioned above, I think the best came from the solo work of Paul after Wings. I am a big fan of his work 1989-1997 (approximately). Ali had a couple of good songs, but I do not think are worthy of a double disc greatest hits album in September

The Master Plan

The Master Plan Overview

Tamela Mann, a powerful voice from an even more powerful brand! You may remember Tamela as the quintessential voice from multi-platinum Kirk Franklin s first four (4) Kirk Franklin and The Family records and Tamela s signature song s Now Behold the Lamb on the ever present holiday project Kirk Franklin and The Family Christmas. Then again, Tamela is even better known in her superstar role as Cora in Tyler Perry s mega block buster franchise on the big and small screen as well as her constant presence for years in Tyler Perry s stage plays. Even more impressive is her weekly role on TBS #1 rated show( in black households throughout America) with her husband, it s star Mr. Brown (David Mann) from Meet The Brown s. Tamela and David Mann are the most recognizable and frequently seen faces, getting more visibility than any other Faith-based artist in the world today! Tamela s sophomore project The Master s Plan is clearly a force to be reckoned with and a most for gospel music lovers and TV and movie lovers as well. TAMELA MANN BIOGRAPHY Arrayed in beauty and endowed with graceful artistry are but few of the observations used to describe Tamela Mann. The golden-voiced actress has impressively ascended into one of today s most accomplished talents. With her beginnings firmly rooted in Fort Worth, Texas, Tamela was born the youngest of 14 children. And like a plethora of other youngest kids, Tamela never had to vie for attention. On the contrary, Tamela and all of her siblings were properly reared by none other than Mother Eppe. A psalmist in her own right, Ms. Eppe was a Holy woman who believed in and exercised solid Bible principles. As Tamela's upbringing was grounded in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) tradition, she inherently possessed a meek and quiet spirit as she grew. At the age of 8, Tamela began mimicking the singing talents of her mother. By the time she was 12-years-old, Tamela's electrifying octave was promoted to the church's adult choir. Often selected to sing solos, a bashful Tamela with perfect pitch and dramatic soprano control would gloriously bellow the Lord's praises! From her early singing days in the local church and high school choirs, a songstress blossomed. As time would have it, such musical preparation served her music career very well as Tamela was privileged to join up with multi-Grammy Award-winning and double platinum gospel phenomenon Kirk Franklin and The Family. The debut album of Kirk Franklin and The Family not only changed the musical landscape of gospel music, but the album realized a defining moment in gospel music history by being the first to go platinum. Franklin and his group, The Family released the smash hit Whatcha Lookin 4, which dominated on the Billboard's Top 200. The album was No. 3 on the R&B charts and No. 1 on Contemporary Christian and Gospel charts. Likewise, the album received celebrated musical honors including a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel album, a Soul Train Music Award, five (5) Stellar Awards and an NAACP Image Award for the Best Duo and/or Group category. In addition to the remarkable success Tamela has enjoyed with The Family, she has collaborated and performed with numerous artists including Yolanda Adams, Mary J. Blige, Al Green, Celine Dion, Bono and Fred Hammond. Tamela's vocal contribution can be heard on various albums including Jackie McCullough Live, LL Cool J, and Kirk Franklin's Christmas. As if that were not enough, Tamela's signature voice can also be heard on respective Coca-Cola and Ashley Stewart commercials. With countless television appearances to her credit such as The Jay Leno Show, BET Soundstage, the 1999 Grammy Awards, the Dove Awards, and the United States of America World Olympics, Tamela also appeared in the 2001 comedy movie King

Can't Buy a Thrill Specifications

Songwriters Walter Becker and Donald Fagen launched Steely Dan with a seductive, poker-faced 1972 debut as smoothly accessible in its music as it was elusive in its thematic concerns. The opening "Do It Again" snagged swift commercial success as one of the most mysterious pop hits in history, a sultry rock cha-cha that chronicled a series of harrowing catastrophes far removed from the reheated love songs and pro forma countercultural rebellion of the day. Though the core band boasted two formidable guitarists, Jeff Baxter and Denny Dias, it was the bloom of Fagen's keyboards and his reedy, smart-ass vocals that carried Thrill light years beyond modal, blues-based rock. That said, an enduring highlight remains the furious six-string fantasia of "Reelin' in the Years," spiked by Elliot Randall's downright historic solos, at once dour and giddy in its indictment of a poser, while "Dirty Work" (featuring short-lived, nominal lead singer David Palmer) offers a decidedly adult vignette of adultery. There isn't a weak track here, astonishing, considering how much growth future Dan albums would display. --Sam Sutherland

Customer Reviews

It 'was at least ten years after it came out that I had a chance in this one tohear the entire site. From the opener "Do It Agin closer" Turn "That Heartbeat Over Again", this music is brilliant. Rich, complex and mysterious. The voice of the strange color and ambiguous images and each musician makes a living.

"Do It Again" as "Reelin in these years is still a Classic Rock radio staples, but its omniprescence is no reason to deny its greatness. From the opening Latin Percussionthe mysterious text that speak to me for vengeance in the Old West, the sitar and synth-solo-bridge, losing a simple song and a great to get you on the highway.

"Dirty Work" has done an excellent keyboard, a great saxophone solo, has resigned and intimate voice of David Palmer, the theme of the song are abused and install a big, big chorus.

"Kings" is one I've heard a lot of others not as much as I love this song. Heavy piano, guitar, brooding,Soul Sister excellent chorus and a guitar solo, I always zippy miscredited Jeff Baxter, Elliot Randall is the man here. The text is still a guess, but I always thought it was part of a "meet the new boss, as the boss' old theme.

"Midnite Cruiser" is a sad song for me, one of Lost Dreams, resignation, and perhaps drugs. The second line "of the world say people know me, do not appear, no more" is one of the most moving pieces ever recorded. ListenThe TWIN door!

"Only a fool would say that I thought was a curiosity, but I was working with his melancholy and a Latin guitar hook that is in my head even though type I

"Reelin in the years," one of the best guitar riffs ever recorded, including Jimmy Page of Led Zep is regarded as one of his favorite tracks. Super fast Jeff Baxter and Denny Dias is like licking trade and collect through every part of the song, but the call and response vocals and piano linesDonald Fagen. I personally appreciate the Tamborine on this song, nothing is lost. We have all heard hundreds of times on the radio, but worth almost every game it is. Even if the text on a stuffed shirt ex-girlfriend is, I could not help but listen to this song as the top. And every time I hear that time and I remember the summer box down.

More cool piano work on "Fire in the Hole, together with a bang lazy and sweet steel guitar. This song builds andbuilt and how to lose sometimes I think I could use a few more minutes.

"Brooklyn" is again sung by David Palmer. Not a particularly strong voice, but suited to this number thinky. More good slide guitar work and lyrics and more mysterious. One of my favorite album.

"Changing of the Guard" is a rocker and probably the next Steely Dan never got to play power chords. But it is mixed with piano pop, is not the typical hard rock. Vocalsand text display, which some optimism of the '70s, I fell in love and out.

I always wondered why "turn that Heartbeat Over Again" is not right with the penultimate line was. "Heartbeat" is a sweet and beautiful song, and maybe that's how Dan wanted to leave. Once again, a message of hope and care. Just like it less and less memorable song on the disc, but not a softy.

Every lyric is still a problem for me. Who can tell me, the realMeaning, I want to hear from you.
I do not know how others feel on this CD almost 40 years. For me, it will still play very well in comparison to each player and his instrument to extract a hint of good taste and very beautiful. Nothing is overstated or exaggerated.
A perfect piece of music.

Customer Reviews

I am a big fan of Mr. Smith live worship album "Worship" Worship Again "and" A New Hallelujah. "With Worthip, I'm in love with her for the first time I heard from him, with Worship Again" and "A Hallelujah Again, I had to listen to a couple of times before I fell in love with them, but when being stuck in a desert island with my Bible, and 1 album on an iPod and a solar power supply, you can honestly say that there is one of these three. I do not know what I chose! Youare all that good!

What I like most about Michael W. Smith notes that you worship the Lord without being in their own way. The three albums are my favorite albums of all time and I heard at least 1 of every three weeks for the last 3 + years.

Essential Heart

Essential Heart Overview

Heart fans will go crazy on this two-disc, career-spanning Heart collection. Tracks include \Crazy on You"

Customer Reviews

With different majors and more than a Best Of some already in their discography, it's great, can a proposition that covers all the bases in an attack since. For Ann and Nancy Wilson, "The Essential Heart" is just that the first Dreamboat Annie on Mushroom Records, the long-term success in the Portrait / CBS its third wave in the Capitol are all big hits here.

Although born as a "female Led Zeppelin" if 70's power-rockers picked up at the "Crazy On You" and"Magic Man" Heart soon developed its own personality. The bad bite "Barracuda" contains one of the 70's all-time great riffs, and Dog & Butterfly (both the album and song) was a rock album incredibly different. But like most groups, when the state ends up becoming a superstar, there is almost always the tension. Heart was not different, and if the internal dispute over the lackluster success of testing and Passion Works (in spite of these songs sound like LED "How can we refuse"), seemedHeart would be phased out soon.

Against all odds, signed with Capitol Records Heart took a pen and Bernie Taupin song back in the Top Ten 1985's "These Dreams" (originally scheduled for Stevie Nicks and loaded with the same kind of atmosphere) kick-started yet another wave successful. Soon the heart slick MTV favorites, with big hair and big hits, but at a price. If you watch "The Essentials", the second disc, you will notice that only two of the 19 tracks were written by Ann and Nancy. The trendthat 80 went to groups like Aerosmith and Cheap Trick in order - sometimes violently - Songs by established singers such as Dianne Warren ("Who did you run"), Mutt Lange (cover All I Want to Make Love To You ") and Steinberg / Kelly ("Alone") announced truancy Heart memorable rock and pop, but he argues in a creative corner. The way home after announcing that Ann and Nancy, a sabbatical from which only recently have again.

There is much to love this series, some oflesser-known hits ("Tell It Like It Is," "heartless"), to a certain selection choice album ("Ring Them Bells" with the late Layne Staley). By collecting all these songs on a disc, "The Essential Heart" is also an essential CD from a band that changes the sound of the '70s and '80s helped.

The 50 Greatest Love Songs

The 50 Greatest Love Songs Overview

It's a shame that only one side of Elvis' multi-faceted talent is remembered 25 years on from his death but there is so much more to the millennium's greatest performer than garish jump suits and shaky legs. The 50 Greatest Love Songs reminds us what a great singer Presley was; coming from the heart with more feeling and passion than most could ever imagine, all 50 of these songs are classics of the last four decades. The double disc set includes all the up-tempo standards like the incredible "Suspicious Minds", "I just can't help believin'" and "Always On My Mind" plus the Dusty Springfield signature tune "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me". VOCAbuLarieS Overview

Ten-time Grammy Award winner/vocal innovator Bobby McFerrin surprises us yet again with VOCAbuLarieS, his first new release in eight years. Like his #1 worldwide hit song Don't Worry Be Happy and his multi-platinum duo album Hush with cellist Yo-Yo Ma, VOCAbuLarieS is based on Bobby's experiments with multi-track recording and his ceaseless exploration of the potential of the human voice. VOCAbuLarieS is Bobby McFerrin music for the 21st century. A collaboration with the composer/arranger/producer Roger Treece, VOCAbuLarieS features over fifty of the world's finest singers, recorded one at a time and in small groups to create a virtual choir made up of over 1,400 vocal tracks. Constructed as meticulously as a Mozart symphony or a Steely Dan album, intricately synthesized from countless stylistic elements, VOCAbuLarieS may be unlike any album anyone has ever recorded. Yet the music is always accessible, joyous, and inviting. VOCAbuLarieS celebrates Bobby's love of all musical genres, from classical to world music, R&B to gospel and beyond, building upon McFerrin's past explorations and journeying into bold new territory. If the song Don't Worry Be Happy is all you know about Bobby McFerrin, sit back and prepare to be amazed.

Customer Reviews

Bobby McFerrin is a musical genius and this album continues to demonstrate this fact. His compositions and improvisations go beyond what someone could do before the thoughts of the human voice. Compared to previous albums I have heard of him (Circle Songs, "beyond words), then this, a fuller orchestrations, and a much larger chorus. I am of Bach, Mozart, Manhattan Transfer, and recalled, mixed with joyful African rhythms and harmonies (think Lion King) and scat singing. McFerrin singing soloCharacteristic of his clear falsetto flutelike.

Listen to the album, but also provide clips of vocal improvisation McFerrin saw on YouTube. Better yet, try to see in concert. We have seen his live performance last night in San Francisco, and knocked our socks. His musical improvisation reminds me a bit 'Robin Williams played the Genie in Aladdin - the service is eclectic, eccentric, surprising, joyous, virtuous and beautiful. Kudos to McFerrin for his researchincredible voice to create something completely new, and switch to pure ecstasy with his music.

Digitally Remastered with Bonus Tracks.

Customer Reviews

This was ice peak of popularity, but for fans of time, the album "having a job" for the band, is designed to break the U.S. market with half AOR vibe road and hell, is delivered. It is a safe par 5, it briefly in water and take a wedge and 2 putt, is the opening batsman, scoring 50 in 40 overs. But despite this and because the values of Iva Davies' music is very well done, and there are some strong tracks on this, especially Man of Colours, sends chills down the spine of even one 20 years later, it is a tender evocation of an artist at work. Other tracks, like Sunrise, I feel a bit 'too much effort. Overall a strong album and one that compares and contrasts beautifully with its earlier and later works.

Monitor

Monitor Overview

The Monitor is a concept album about the Civil War, "sort of", says singer Patrick Stickles. It was recorded August (09) by Kevin McMahon at his studio - Marcata Recording - in New Paltz, NY. The usual suspects from the world of Titus Andronicus were all in attendance, as well as members of Ponytail, Wye Oak, Vivian Girls, and the Hold Steady. McMahon also mixed the album, and it was mastered by Greg Calbi whom the band chose because he is the only person alive who can claim involvement in both The Chemistry of Common Life by Fucked Up and Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell by Meat Loaf!

Customer Reviews

So what have we here? In short, is a concept album about the American Civil War as an extended metaphor for a young person's journey is far from his ancestral home together in New Jersey for his new home in Boston with a timid sort of tribute to Bruce Springsteen. It does not sound very promising, is not it? Surprisingly, it is all the more surprising that "The Monitor" is largely of Titus Andronicus works and works brilliantly on time. In addition, a band that takes its name from a minormight be Shakespeare's play, a high voltage to be messy, punk band that has been added American Bar in the words of Drowned in Sound "just a huge collection of songs that felt so strong that requires distance"

The monitor is of course the great battle of the Civil War iron clad a deadlock in their equivalent Confederate CSS Virginia fought in the Battle of Hampton Roads. It is no great shock then to see an ode to 14 minutesBattle said on this album, which, in the ninth minute the bagpipes!

Forget the idea for now and ask the central question: what is the music in this way? The album begins with someone quoting Abraham Lincoln and then "a more perfect Union" bursts. Gusts of feedback in a huge drum beat injury / Riff, shame and Gaslight Anthem singer Patrick Stickles announce that "I never wanted to change the world would be set, I'm not looking for a new New Jersey / But vagrantsas we / children are born to die. "In fact, the current obsession of young American bands with the boss knows no boundaries, except in this case, the nephew of Bruce to bad happy hour with ASBO! In about 4 minutes and 10 seconds, I seem to break a Another song that could be Dropkick Murphy's. Just listen.

second song "Titus Andronicus Forever" is just 2 minutes to thrash around screaming essentially a mental guitar solo and the band "the enemy is everywhere." "Richard II"subtitled with some missing little (or extraordinary people and the folly of scale Mad (Head Hate Anthem) is one of the greatest songs ever recorded, and Pogues bring the show live every rough side of the Atlantic. "A pot to p" is a other epic 9 minutes, which contains within its borders only to the whole history of rock n roll and recognize what I have to make some new arrangement! The epic album highlight is "sign and Fore Seven", starting slowly withSickles offers a series of unprintable expletives. And 'biggest kick of a mule with a migraine and transformed into a total of Rock' n 'Roll Mayhem, where at one time Stickles announced that -

"We are all corrupt and abominable" spit like a fountain,
"It erased, defaced, desecrated and destroyed,
"Above all disappointed," I say to the mountain top

In this context, "Theme from Cheers" is actually a very nice, although somewhat anarchic pop song for good measure, becausenot Reprise 'Titus Andronicus Forever "again call it" Anyway ", and so again" The enemy is everywhere "..... This album is the work of a band whose motto is the title of this review. Titus Andronicus is a rude, crude rock bands that are all lucky to sell a disc, and would be a bit 'of Shakespearean tragedy in itself (the comparison with substitutions in this respect are Spooky) "The Monitor" is a highly inventive , lyrically and often fun to read and write, mixed with some IrishConor Oberst and more often than not at all flaky. Spin called them drunk Run stepson born on an epic Spree. I like to think that one.

There's smooth pop (a cover of the '70s rock hit "My Maria"), hard-charging honky-tonk ("Hard Workin' Man"), thoughtful ballads ("She Used to Be Mine"), and the line-dancing craze's very own Rosetta stone ("Boot Scootin' Boogie"). How to make a great punk album with more than 3 chords? Making Irish music, singer and Roudy Get a double speed up.
Songs of the Irish have a lot of tragedy, irony, anger and humor to them. This translates perfectly into the songs that Shane MacGowan wrote. His songs deal with the darker side of life in the form of a story almost like seeing a movie that does not get more singers, who does a better job to write songs that did not like the original singer. The groupdoes a great job giving a feel for the lyrics.
This album is the last real production MacGowan. The next album "I Should Fall From Grace Of God", the rest of the band put in two cents and a producer who takes away the edge bands. "Peace and Love" is where you lose interest, resume and the band for many reasons.
My personal opinion is that you get if you want to feel the energy of the band in its primary condition.

So Far So Good

So Far So Good Overview

Japanese only SHM-CD (Super High Material CD - playable on all CD players) pressing. Universal. 2008.

So Far So Good Specifications

So Far So Good offers up 13 of his previous hits plus a new song, "Please Forgive Me," a gooey, Michael Bolton-like ballad. The album starts out with "Summer of '69," the appealing autobiographical song about the 10-year-old Adams learning to play his first guitar in Ontario, and includes "(Everything I Do) I Do for You," the synth-laced ballad that wound up in the Guinness Book of World Records after topping the British singles charts for 16 weeks. With its over-the-top, gravelly vocals, So Far So Good reminds one of Rod Stewart's 1980s work when he was coasting on past achievements. Unfortunately, Adams has never had a period like Stewart's glory years in the '70s. --Geoffrey Himes

Customer Reviews

As only a casual fan of this storyteller in this release is perfect for me. Not only is the mega-hits like "Summer of '69, which was played ad nauseum, since liberation, but also the wealth of more strokes of mid-level - and that's what this album.

Of course with a Greatest Hits package, you always get someone Anorak complain that this or that track should really be an obscure EP from 1983 here. But the fans, as they have allAlbum however, and its best for road use and abuse. For the rest of us, as Adams' can induce both ballads rip tear and vomiting in almost equal measure, but an album of songs in circulation is probably the way to go.

Ultimately, the best advertisement for this release is the track list. Your on board or if your IMHO is not for every clunker like Kids Want to Rock tunes, working their innocent charm, completely independent of the publicfree will, like Run To You and Can not Stop This Thing We Started.

I actually started the tour on this release, when they sailed across Australia and support, even though my companions and I were more on the context, for example, have a Metallica concert, we really like the upbeat swing of Rock n Roll Show''used Adams Sat

Welcome to anyone who hits on his radio buzzed encouraged, but does not want to throw their CD shelf with the dubious pleasurescomplete catalog Mans, although no liner notes or anecdotes.

Under Great White Northern Lights (2LP 180 Gram Vinyl)

Under Great White Northern Lights (2LP 180 Gram Vinyl) Overview

In the summer of 2007, shortly after the release of their 6th album 'Icky Thump', The White Stripes headed
north of their hometown of Detroit to embark on an ambitious journey across Canada. The plan was to play a show in every province and territory in Canada, from B.C. to Newfoundland to Nunavut. 'Having never done a tour of Canada, Meg and I thought it was high time to go whole hog... from the ocean to the permafrost' says Jack White. 'We wanted to play out of the way towns that don't usually get shows... the shows are better, it's better for the people, it's a better experience, it's way more unique, something interesting is going to happen... hopefully.'
White called upon filmmaker Emmett Malloy to come and document this trek for the band. Malloy had directed videos for
the band in the past, and seemed eager to hit the road with them. Equipped with a couple of 16mm cameras, and a few other documenting devices, the band and crew all headed north. The end result was 'Under Great White Northern Lights'.
'Under Great White Northern Lights' is a visual and emotional feature length film documenting The White Stripes making their way through Canada and culminating with their 10th anniversary show in Nova Scotia. The film documents the band playing shows all over Canada; from local bowling alleys, to city buses, and onward to the legendary Savoy Theater for the
10th Anniversary show. A show that turned out to be the longest show the band had ever done on stage together.
The film captures intimate moments of Jack and Meg both on and off stage as they travel through some of the most
remote parts of the northern Yukon Territory. Along the way, they have some nice casual conversations about their ten years together, fire cannons, play some of their biggest songs together on stage, and even play a 'one note show.' The cameras were there to capture every waking moment.
What 'Northern Lights' does best, is document one of the biggest bands in the world, playing to local crowds in small towns. Some of these towns were so small that many of the locals had no idea who The White Stripes were - they just knew something big was going on in their town. This forced a band that had been together for a decade to go back to a place reminiscent of the first shows they ever played together. For the first time in a long time, no one knew who they were and they had to make a first impression with their music. The live footage captured in this film shows that Jack and Meg were clearly ready for this.
Beyond the live footage, some of the films most memorable moments happen off-stage - offering an insightful look into the very private and complex world that is The White Stripes. It was shortly after this tour that The White Stripes canceled
their fall tour of the United States - making the ten year anniversary a truly pivotal milestone for this legendary band.
