Ark

Ark Overview

2010 release, the second solo album from Brendan Perry, formerly one-half of Dead Can Dance. Recorded in his own studio in Ireland, Ark is truly a solo album, Brendan playing every instrument, writing all the lyrics and being the sole creative force across the eight tracks. All of the instrumentation on Ark is derived from samples and synthesizers and, in its creators own words, is predicated on a theory of creating 'a neutral electronic soundscape which would in turn mirror a world that is becoming increasingly more dependent upon machines to perform tasks for us'. Brendan Perry is a man very much in mind. For those familiar with the epic music of Dead Can Dance, which surely will not be disappointed in the tapestry of richly layered soundscapes that Perry did this brilliantly ambitious second solo trip planned. And the fact that he plays all the instruments makes it even more rewarding. But honestly, it's not just the music, the stage is on this album, but deeply personal comment on Perry's life,The war, despair and destruction of Mother Earth - a gift to humanity has tarnished his selfish end. Yes, we made our beds are burning, and now we sleep in them.

Perry did not mince words when referring to the lies of peace and the voracious man-machine, senseless war, the causes empty life lost, cold-blooded reptiles political, materialism, global destruction and the death of innocence. Perry to say basically what most of us think perhaps - thatthe flame is blown away there in our hands. But there is something much deeper going on here. A little 'more personal - as if we own inner demons, as witness Perry alone assumes the sins of the world in a recent friendly gesture.

As "Leeloo" in Luc Besson's cult science fiction classic, "The Fifth Element, high sensitivity Perry comes to running the world on this album, he left us crying in a corner and see how ourdestruction in front of us like to play badly in the theater hall of the human race. Because, like Perry, we feel invisible and deaf - trapped in their own suburbs of hell, as we foolishly and blindly live our lives indirectly through our TVs and on the Internet. Because, like stars, our souls are dead and we do not even know. So we all depend on the illusion and a lie is to live, as the curtain comes down on us.

If it comes to finding a glimmer of hope in Perrysobering vision is rooted in love, in love, live life right, and the resilience of Mother Nature. Even if we end up drowning in our greed, hatred and ignorance, the seed of new life from the earth obscures the sun rises to kiss. Very recommended.
