Pieces

Pieces Overview

After recording his second solo album, Stills formed Manassas in 1971 with a talented group of musicians that included Chris Hillman, a former member of the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers. Manassas released two albums, 1972's eponymous double-album debut and the 1973 follow-up, Down The Road. MANASSAS - PIECES features alternate versions of two songs from Down The Road: 'Do You Remember The Americans' and 'Lies' (featuring guitarist Joe Walsh). The collection also includes the legendary group's unreleased performances of 'Sugar Babe' and 'Word Game,' a pair of songs Stills recorded in 1971 for his second solo album. The remaining tracks include 'Like A Fox,' a song recorded with blues guitarist Bonnie Raitt on background vocals and the Latin-tinged 'Tan Sola Y Triste' (Spanish for 'So Alone and Sad').

Customer Reviews

Not too much for the comments from guests' add, but here are some thoughts that I hope can add some value to potential buyers. This CD is an eclectic mix of, well, "Pieces", performed by Stephen Stills and Manassas. Although it is understandable how this collection could only be subsequently released, stands the test of time and is worth listening to Stephen Stills Fans. Some of the best songs seemed to be saved for future versions, especially "My Love is aGentle Thing '(for the unlucky in 1974 CSNY "Human Highway" album was designed) and "Love and satisfy (Souther-Hillman-Furay)." My love is a sweet Thing "sounds almost identical to me the other CSN Box and perhaps it is. Are re-recordings of previously released (" Sugar Babe "," Word Game "), or in the near future, at that time ( "Do You Remember the Americans liberated" and "Lies") songs. Others are very original ( "Witching Hour"), or covers, we have not heard.

TheMusicality of the band is simply superior, and for those who appreciate high-quality 2-channel recordings, the sound quality is excellent. Folks, these are real musicians making real music. This is not digitally synthesized on the treated waste.

What for me on many of the songs drums Dallas Taylor, the very choice of many of the most rocks in the foreground. A series of hard-core bluegrass cuts are included with violin and mandolin (by Chris Hillman, thePro's Pro, of course) at the end of the CD. Finally, Stephen is singing gritty, casual and keys, and his guitar is sweet.

Years later, I regret that Stephen Stills Manassas could never put together again, even if only for a reunion tour.

I rate this CD is buy one.
