Bloody Pit of Horror

Bloody Pit of Horror Overview

After a triumphant European tour that includede appearances at the With Full Force and Dour Festivals, Antarctic rock gods GWAR have returned to their ice-bound fortress, to drink blood and begin work on their newest and most gut-crushing album yet. That s right, right now, at the sorta halfway point of GWAR s special two-year long 25th Anniversary Slay-a-Bration, Slave Pit Inc. and Metal Blade Records are proud to announce the title of GWAR's new album.

Our new album is called Bloody Pit of Horror, said ODERUS URUNGUS, front-thing and leading female impersonator. We are fully aware that there is a movie of the same title, I assure you it has nothing to do with it, save the title, which we stole from them. But you see, we're calling it GWAR's Bloody Pit of Horror , and that's a little different, so hopefully we won't get sued!

The new album is reportedly heavy as frick, and features songs like Hail to Genocide , Storm is Coming , and Tick-Tits . That s a song about a chick whose breasts are covered in ticks... big fat gray puffy ones , said Oderus. A full track listing and official release date is expected soon.

GWAR's new album, 'GWAR's Bloody Pit of Horror' is out this fall on Metal Blade Records. In the meantime look for GWAR back in Europe this summer, at the Bloodstock fest and more! And follow GWAR, buy GWAR merchandise, and jack-off on a picture of GWAR at...

La Luna (Live in Concert)

Classics Specifications

Have some friends who still haven't discovered what the Sarah Brightman fuss is all about? You'll find the perfect introduction to make converts of them all in Classics, so they'll have no more excuses to remain clueless. Sporting a Botticelli-inspired image of the platinum-selling soprano on the cover, Classics is a classy anthology including highlights from three of Brightman's chart-topping releases along with seven new tracks. Songs personally selected by the diva as her favorite classical interpretations are culled from her previous blockbusters: Time To Say Goodbye, Eden, and La Luna. And whether you're a fan already in the fold or one in the making, the new material here shows the diva at the top of her form, in new renderings of "O Mio Babbino Caro" and "Nessun Dorma" (accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic)--fascinating displays of the operatic confidence she's developed over her career. Other new offerings include a touching version of Schubert's "Ave Maria,' "Winter Light," a fresh take on her signature song "Pie Jesu" (from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem). "Alhambra" and "Dans La Nuit"--a real treat, bathing the listener in Brightman's silky, sensuous vocalism--add two original titles to her famous adaptations of classical melodies to new lyrics (using Chopin's haunting E major Etude in the latter case). All told, a lovely affirmation of the directions Brightman has boldly taken in her career to date. -Sarah Chin

Go

Go Overview

Jónsi has spent more than a decade writing epic compositions with Sigur Rós, creating some of the finest, most acclaimed albums of the last ten years. The choice to make an album of solo recordings came together as a solution to a backlog of songs Jónsi had written that didn't seem to fit within the Sigur Rós context. Go is a different beast entirely. Ecstatic, dramatic and alive, it features Jónsi's signature vocals throughout, with the majority of the songs sung in English.

Tigerlily

Tigerlily Overview

Former 10,000 Maniacs lead singer Natalie Merchant makes her shimmering solo debut.
Genre: Popular Music
Media Format: Compact Disk
Rating:
Release Date: 20-JUN-1995

Tigerlily Specifications

Though the minor hits "Wonder" and "Jealousy" bore a reasonable resemblance to Merchant's work with 10,000 Maniacs, most of Tigerlily clearly established her as a solo artist apart from her former band. The record's first single, "Carnival," drove that point home, with a hook based more on rhythm than melody and the haunting voice of Katell Keineg adding an intriguing dimension to the chorus. Elsewhere, much of Tigerlily is remarkably solemn and subtle, from the low-key opener "San Andreas Fault" to the widower's lament "My Beloved Wife" to the eight-minute opus "I May Know the Word." Also of note is "River," an emotional ode to friend and fallen star River Phoenix. --Peter Blackstock

Release Date: 23-SEP-2003

Customer Reviews

Loved it! Their "classic derangments were funny, just a little 'scary feeling, and something I like at any time of year. The only part I did not like the Z-series were severe and Crystal, were just a bit older' too new for me. But so much really great music.

The disc would be nice background sound effects played softly, with a Halloween party, but it is not my thing.

Listen to samples and you have a good idea if this is for you.

41 Original Hits From The Soundtrack Of American Graffiti

41 Original Hits From The Soundtrack Of American Graffiti Overview

For those of us who grew up in the '70s, this drive-in compilation of '50s and '60s rock and doo-wop, complete with Wolfman Jack introductions, was our introduction to this music. There are 41 jukebox hits here, and every one of them is a classic of its time (although two tracks--"At the Hop" and "She's so Fine" are covers by the revival band Flash Cadillac & the Continental Kids). In his 1973 movie, director George Lucas used the music (and the presence of mysterious deejay Wolfman) as the AM-radio soundtrack to one night in suburban California, 1962. The idea was to capture and sustain an end-of-summer, end-of-innocence mood that's in the air throughout the picture-- not as a shortcut to establishing a period (as in Robert Zemeckis'Forrest Gump). There's an awful lot of spontaneous energy in these tunes--from Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, to the Platters and the Clovers and the Del-Vikings, to the Crests and the Beach Boys--and also just a hint of melancholy that goes down very nicely with a burger, shake, and fries. --Jim Emerson

Customer Reviews

If you grew up in the 50s and 60s and really followed rock and roll, I really like this album, has many of the most popular songs of that period. I remember thinking the movie really contain a great job picking the songs on the soundtrack. I had a tape with about 25 songs, but this CD is even better because it has most if not all the songs in the film. The price is right too.
