The Steeldrivers Overview
With one foot in the field and the other in the factory, The SteelDrivers are a beacon beaming their own version of rhythm'n'bluegrass far across the musical landscape. Highly regarded behind the scenes as songsmiths and session men - with innumerable hits, cuts, and licks to their credit - The SteelDrivers are stepping out at long last. In their ten capable hands, back-country high-lonesome collides with Delta soul, resulting in the freshest sound to emerge from Music City in recent memory. Via eleven original songs, their debut album offers revealing new takes on classic themes of redemption and loss, hope and home delivered with urgency and heart. The SteelDrivers are Richard Bailey, Mike Fleming, Mike Henderson, Tammy Rogers, and Chris Stapleton. "Really soulful bluegrass, with great songs. An incredible combination." -Vince Gill
Customer Reviews
Got this CD yesterday and have already decided that one of the best CDs I've bought in recent years, friends. The first three songs ("Blue Side of the Mountain," "Drinkin 'Dark Whiskey" and "Midnight Train to Memphis") are worth the price of the CD. Chris Stapleton's voice is gritty and powerful, while Tammy Rodgers' top blues harmonies are dead. And speaking of Tammy Rodgers, it's all about playing the violin some of the most aggressive, clean lines you will hear anywhere.Hell, if everyone in the band up to it in his pocket on every song. The banjo player adds a lot of nice fills and solos and is definitely not a slave to Scruggs-style pickin '. As a previous reviewer, I also wondered why the mandolin player was not there that sounds great article on his few solos and when playing back-up as well. After saying how well the band plays and sings, let me say now that the best part of the CD is actually the original song. Great tunes, really do not sound much like most of the bluegrass out there, even if they are well rooted in this style. I suspect it will itself be the hardcore bluegrass traditionalist position to deny the charm of this music. Pop in your player and get ready to rock!
