Heroes Overview

Willie Nelson delivers his first new album, Heroes, as part of his homecoming to Legacy Recordings. No themes or gimmicks to this album, just 13 brand new recordings produced by Buddy Cannon (Academy of Country Music' producer of the year 2006).

Scheduled for release on May 15th, just in time for Willie's 79th birthday, the songs take on a reflective, emotional tone and move from heartfelt (a stunning rendition of Pearl Jam's "Just Breathe") to humor (on "Roll Me Up" with guest vocalist Snoop Dogg). Other guest vocalists on the album include Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, Jamey Johnston, Billy Joe Shaver and Sheryl Crow. Sons Lukas and Micah Nelson also feature prominently, making this a real family affair.

This beautiful album, sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, should have broad appeal among Nelson's core fans and followers and beyond.

AM/FM

AM/FM Overview

AM/FM is an intimate, elegant and beautifully sung collection of classics from the '60s and '70s that together, make up the soundtrack to her life. "The song sequence on the album tells a story of a very innocent, idealized version of love in the `AM' section, before it shifts to the `FM' section and becomes more about the disillusionment that happens after you've had some heartbreaks," Rita says. The album contains 14 tracks, carefully curated by Wilson along with her producer Fred Mollin. The album is essentially divided into two sections. The first half, "AM," features songs from the '60s that Wilson remembers singing along to on AM radio while riding in the back seat of her parents' car and that recall the "lovely innocence and hopefulness of the time": "All I Have To Do Is Dream," "Never My Love" and "Cherish," "Come See About Me," "Angel Of The Morning," "Walking In The Rain," "Wichita Lineman" (written by Jimmy Webb who also plays piano on Wilson's version), and "You Were On My Mind."

By the time Wilson got her own car (a Datsun 2000 Roadster) at age 17, popular music lived on FM radio. She became enamored with the folk-rock singer-songwriters who dominated those airwaves in the early '70s and her favorite songs make up the "FM" half: "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues" , "Love Has No Pride," "Please Come To Boston", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", "Faithless Love" and "River." "As I got older, I began to understand that not everything had a happy ending," Rita says, "so I was drawn to songs by women who wrote about how love was not always the dream fantasy; that there was pain and disappointment involved." AM/FM, was recorded last spring at the legendary Capitol Records Studio A in Hollywood. Augmenting Rita's exquisite vocal performances are appearances by special guests Chris Cornell, Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Webb, Jackson Browne, Faith Hill, Vince Gill, and Patti Scialfa (who also produced "Come See About Me").

Americana

Americana Overview

Americana is the first album from Neil Young & Crazy Horse in nearly nine years. Crazy Horse is: Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina, Poncho Sampedro, and Neil Young. As you ll see from the track-listing, Americana is collection of classic, American folk songs. In their day, some of these may have been referred to as "protest songs," "murder ballads," or campfire-type songs passed down with universal, relatable tales for everyman. Some of these compositions which, like "Tom Dooley" and "Oh Susannah," were written in the 1800s, while others, like "This Land Is Your Land" (utilizing the original, widely misinterpreted "deleted verses") and "Get A Job," are mid-20th-century folk classics. It s also interesting to note that "God Save The Queen," Britain s national anthem, also became the de facto national anthem of sorts before the establishment of The Union as we know it until we came to adopt our very own "The Star Spangled Banner," which has been recognized for use as early as 1889 and made our official national anthem in 1931. Each of these compositions is very much part of the fabric of our American heritage; the roots of what we think of as "Americana" in cultural terms, using songs as a way of passing along information and documenting our past. What ties these songs together is the fact that while they may represent an America that may no longer exist, the emotions and scenarios behind these songs still resonate with what s going on in the country today with equal, if not greater impact nearly 200 years later. The lyrics reflect the same concerns and are still remarkably meaningful to a society going through economic and cultural upheaval, especially during an election year. They are just as poignant and powerful today as the day they were written.
